This seminal book "Introduction to Igbo Medicine and Culture in Nigeria" presents a collection of rich and well researched essays by the author which are devoted to Igbo Medicine issues and development. It lays bare factors useful for more research with regard to development, concrete awareness and application to our obvious needs.,

This book, Introduction to Igbo Medicine and Culture in Nigeria is a collection of rich essays devoted to Igbo medicine issues in contemporary Nigeria. Over many years, the author has through teaching, research and publications made useful contributions to African studies, in particular, Igbo studies in the field of endougenous knowledge and healing pragmatics. In view of calls by readers and commentators, putting these essays together for a publication of this kind became necessary. I have therefore tried to build up the  Introduction to Igbo Medicine and Culture in Nigeria with the chosen  important essays in the book. There is hope the essays will open tracks for further research and social science education in Nigeria, Africa and elsewhere. The book is for that reason a submission which provides constructive introductory research information, analysis and method to understand how the Igbo and by extension Africa explore, give and apply cosmological, philosophical and anthropological sense and meaning to life, fortune, misfortune, illness and health in the struggles of everyday lives. As insightful as the essays are, the book as a whole mediates and fosters the significance of cultural theory of understanding the dimensions of complementary health issues and to build bridges between health care alternatives to support the multiple and critical needs of the ill person in search of recovery. Readers will find the book not only fascinating but also ground breaking. Certainly, this is a book for everyone who appreciates the ways of healing to read and deliver the high impact message healers and patients embody and tend to give out in their world of illness and healing dynamics.

Reader Reviews for "Introduction to Igbo Medicine and Culture in Nigeria"

Reviewed by Patrick IROEGBU 4/28/2010
Reading this book, I have personally gained insight into Igbo traditional beliefs and practices regarding casuation, health and wellness, therapy and philosophy of medicine in an African world. I liked the way the author blended his argument and challenged the required governments to focus on endogenous dimensions of hearlers and patients for development and inclusion in modern health care issues.
