Antoine A Raphael
Marcel, the young positive mind
"Marcel" is an instance in which the whole community is mistaken in its appraisal of reality, while one adolescent gets right.
For some odd reason, Marcel, a 14 year old adolescent, has show precocious objectivity. He sets out to show that the townspeople's fears are baseless.
There is also a French version of this story.
Marcel loves reading all kinds of books, as long as they are fascinating, and, as he said it himself, "they lift my soul". But his great passion for reading is not a mysterious emotion: his paternal grandfather, Francois Morton, who used to be close to him before dying, had always seized every opportunity to remind him of the value of reading. "For one thing," repeated the grandfather again and again, "Reading may keep you from boredom and eventually from trouble."
