The Attitude Girl by Mila Bernadkin
Raising children has never been easy… And guiding them through adolescence in our tumultuous modern word? Maddening! Today’s teens want entertainment! What they need, however, is a little bit of guidance, especially given the challenges of the current US economy. Written for young adults, ages 15 and up, and their parents, The Attitude Girl is an inspirational, award-winning timely book that gives them both…
In her award-winning debut novel, The Attitude Girl, Mila Bernadkin draws on her experience as a teacher, mother and advanced graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature to identify with the tremulous world of confusing emotions and mixed messages of “maturity” today’s teens live in as they feel their way through the process of becoming young adults.
Selected as the Best Young Adult Novel of the Year by the 2010 Premier Book Awards, The Attitude Girl also placed as a Finalist of the 2010 National Indie Excellence Awards in the Young Adult Fiction, was named a First-place Winner in the Young Adult/Teenage category at the 2009 London Book Festival and in the Arizona Authors Association Annual Awards Literary Contest, and additionally received four Honorable Mentions in 2009/2010 literary competitions.

“The competition was fierce and it was a difficult decision choosing from so many deserving books entered into this year's contest. However, the judges were unanimous in their selection of The Attitude Girl as the winner. Bernadkin should be justifiably proud to have written such a wonderful, award-winning novel.”

“The Attitude Girl, written by Mila Bernadkin, is a book that every mother and/or daughter should read. It is filled with real life, true to life situations that every teen-aged girl goes through at some point in her life. You watch as this young girl goes through some of life's obstacles and at the end she has developed into a mature young woman who is strong, intelligent and very compassionate. A must-read for girls and moms of all ages and stages!”

"I could not put this book down as page after page was filled with turmoil through the eyes of a seventeen-year-old. There are some parts of this book that I laughed a little and cried a lot, something touched me about this book in a way that only one who has lived through some of the situations can feel. Most teens can identify with her as most of what she goes through in the book does actually happen on a regular basis. But in this story you see how one girl overcomes many obstacles to find herself on a road to discover what she truly wants out of life. A great story from front to back that I recommend to everyone, especially those with tween/teen age daughters, if they have an attitude there may be a deeper reason as to why. Loved this book!"

If I’m having a bad day, why should I have a positive attitude? Because it’s the right way of thinking or a good position to have? Please don’t tell me that a positive attitude always helps. Case in point: homeless people. Why should they have a positive attitude? Just because “the sun’ll come out tomorrow?”
Wonderful Read! 5 Stars!
“In this first-person narrative we are introduced to Victoria Benson, a materialistic and self-centered teenager who is highly inconvenienced when her mother's unexpected job loss interferes with her weekend shopping plans. Vicky may have her issues, but dishonesty certainly isn't one of them. She speaks her mind and isn't shy to voice her opinion, whether it's wanted or not. And it's her frankness and her bluntness, as well as her occasional selfishness, that often gets her into trouble. But over the course of the story we see Vicky mature and blossom into a wise and compassionate young woman. Yes, she will always be honest, and that's a good thing, but through life's hard knocks she will learn how to be more understanding of others. This book is a good read for the young, and the young at heart. A wonderful read!”

Entertaining and Touching! 5 Stars!
“Most teenagers, especially in today's society not only have to battle with being too young for the adults and being too old for the younger children, but are forced to face peer-pressure and the demands of America’s economy in need. Victoria Benson is not classified as the average shy, follow-all-your-friends typical teenager. She may have similar issues that most seventeen year old girls experience, but she is also different in other ways. She’s honest and open, not afraid to speak her mind, whether she has permission to, or not. Victoria will indeed find many closed doors in life as we all do. She will have her ups-and-downs, fall, and get up again. But her quality of honesty will be her key to open up new doors, after learning life’s tough lessons. The experience of hard knocks and falls will help her to better understand other people, and become more sympathetic, and passionate. I highly recommend this novel for young adults. All the characters are realistic, most teenagers will be able to relate to Vicky's issues, and the story is true to life. How does Vicky deal with the wicked girls who torment? Does Vicky adjust to the financial burdens within her family unit, and does she continue to be selfish? Is it Vicky’s attitude that gets her in trouble, or her honesty? Take an emotional roller-coaster-ride with Vicky through financial highs-and-lows, difficult relationships, and changes after her father abandoned her, and her mother. Follow Vicky’s path as she blossoms to maturity, after surviving many unexpected storms that life throws upon us. The reader will witness how peer-pressure, and lifestyles influence the road to adulthood. The Attitude Girl is as entertaining as Erin Brockovich and as deeply moving as A Walk to Remember with Shane West, and Mandy Moore.”

A lively guide for a girl's survival of the wicked teens.
“Sometimes outrageous, nearly always outspoken teenage Victoria brings both smiles and sad reflection to this impressive coming-of-age story. I am most impressed with how Ms. Bernadkin reveals her main character through her expressions. And more. Bernadkin's novel could well serve as a lively guide for a girl's survival of the wicked teens.”
