Truly, Madly, Deeply
Nia Imani The Writer

Julia Dane finally owns the grooming and boarding business she’s always dreamed of.  But now she’s having to deal with the day to day headaches that come with owning a business, like building a steady client base, maintaining employees, keeping up with repairs and struggling each month to pay off her debt.  So, when the pipes suddenly burst, shutting down half of her business, Julia didn’t know what she was going to do!

Then, Travis Chandler entered her life and offered her a solution.  He would take care of her business’s repairs and make her debt go away.  All she had to do was agree to do one thing…

"Give me just a second,” Travis said, frowning when he saw Julia leaning against the door frame between their bedrooms, trying to maintain her balance while slipping her feet into her high-heels. “Hmm? No, not you,” he said into his cell phone. “I was talking to Julia.”

Julia quickly fastened both of her sandals and started to retreat back to her bedroom. “I’ll come back,” she mouthed.

He swiftly caught her arm. “No. I’m almost done,” he whispered, then slid his hand down until he was holding hers. “You look good in red,” he murmured appreciatively.

Heat filled her cheeks. “Do you really think so?” she asked, glancing down at the long empire dress that gently flowed from her body.

He answered by raising her fingers to his lips and kissing the back of them. “Yes. Yes, I’m listening. Every word,” Travis grumbled into his phone, sighing as he flipped Julia’s hand over, so he could place his mouth against her palm. Then, with deliberate slowness, he trailed soft kisses up the inside of her arm until he reached her elbow. He paused, stared up into her eyes and, without any warning at all, pulled her up against him.

Julia gasped in shock, as she felt Travis’s lips against her neck. He was finding all of the erogenous points on her skin, nibbling them, tasting them and arousing such a swift sweep of pleasure in her that she had to bite her lip to keep from crying out.

“Howard, you know I can’t keep up with you when you’re spurting out numbers faster than a damn auctioneer,” Travis complained, suddenly raising his head to focus on his phone conversation again.

Julia blinked up at Travis, trying to figure out how he could still appear so decidedly unaffected when she was struggling to resurface from a thick sensual haze. She started to pull away from him, but his arm tightened around her waist. She struggled harder and finally freed herself, stalking over to the door with her hands crossed over her heaving chest.

Travis frowned at her. “I have to go,” he said into the phone. “We’ll talk about this more on Monday. Okay. Bye.” He disconnected the call and stood staring at Julia for a long moment. “What’s wrong?” he asked finally.

“Nothing,” she snapped, swinging around and opening the door to the hall. “I’m just ready to get to the party, that’s all.”

“Nothing, hmm?” he murmured, stepping out into the hall with her. “Then, why do you seem upset?

“I’m not upset.”

“Yes, you are,” he said, stepping in her path, blocking her. He smirked suddenly. “You’re upset because I stopped kissing you, aren’t you?”

She impatiently pushed passed him. “Don’t be ridiculous. I hardly even noticed.”

He saw the way she studiously avoided his eyes and his smile broadened. He easily kept up with her stride. “If it makes you feel any better, if we didn’t have to get downstairs, I would have done something to you that you couldn’t ‘hardly even notice’.”

She actually stumbled. But she didn’t fall. Travis made sure of that, one of his hands on her waist, the other on her arm.

“I’m glad I didn’t make that comment while we were going down the stairs,” Travis drawled dryly.

“I wish you hadn’t made it at all,” she hissed, pulling from his grasp.

“No, you don’t. You liked the comment. You were just startled by the images that it put into your head, that’s all. They were quite shocking, weren’t they? You felt the same emotions scorching through your veins when I was kissing you a few minutes ago, only you pictured us in the bed and we were—”

“Stop!” she cried desperately.

“Or perhaps I’m just projecting my thoughts onto you.” He shrugged dismissively. Then, he took her hand and tucked it into the crook of his arm. “Come, Julia. It’s show time!”

Reader Reviews for "Truly, Madly, Deeply"

Reviewed by Darkest Angel 4/3/2010
It looks like I will have to take up reading, as a pastime activity. You are so in control of yourself--I feel that in the writing; the writing is very good--it is enticing! Thank you for the glimpse of this work, Nia.
