An anthology of stories under 1000 words. It contains supernatural stories, as well as the mundane.

Rita L. Smith

Vampires, Shapeshifters and Witches...  24 stories, each told in 1000 words or less.

Look for a teen age witch with so much power she must find an outlet or bad things will happen.  What happens to a would be werewolf hunter when she tracks down a pack of wolves?  Sometimes moving into a new house isn't as wonderful as one would like it to be.  A man walks into an ER with a broom sticking out of his head.  What happens to a con artist when she is exposed by one of her previous cons.  Riding with your friends is always fun... Or is it?  And so much more.

Dinner Time
by Rita L. Smith

“What are you looking for?” asked an old man.

“Er, um…My dog,” said Katie.

“What kind is it? Maybe, I’ve seen it.”

“It’s a really big dog. You’d remember it if you saw it, Sir.”

“I haven’t seen any big dogs come this way and I have been sitting here for about an hour. I did see a bunch of cats running past. Coming from that abandoned school.”

“Thanks for you help.”

Katie’s heart started thumping as she changed directions. She might actually catch her first werewolf. She patted her pocket for reassurance that she had her handgun with her.

Entering the school through a loose board on one of the windows, Katie heard a noise behind her.

“We’ve been waiting for you,” a voice called from across the room.”

“We?” asked Katie.

“Yes, we,” said a voice from behind her.

The old man’s arms closed around Katie, effectively stopping her from reaching for the gun.

“Boys, it’s dinner time,” the old man said. He patted Katie down removing her weapon as growls closed in on them.
