Did Cerasoli just make Alzheimer's disease hip?

If by "hip" you mean relevant, current and something everybody is FINALLY going to talk about, then yeah, As Nora Jo Fades Away hit the mark.

How does a writer transition from hard-core romantic fiction to a heartbreaking memoir with barely a year between them? By remaining true to one simple quality, the raw-truth-trait that exemplifies her writing style. After luring us through her award-winning debut novel, On the Brink of Bliss and Insanity with stark wit and mad fascinating characters, Cerasoli surprises us with the true story of life with her ailing grandmother.

Life shifts from Michigan to Mars when Lisa and her family move in her grandmother, Nora Jo, upon diagnosis of dementia. The Weavers quickly discover the "comicals" of Nora Jo's condition bring a whole new realm of "crazy" to their offbeat but copasetic abode, driving it into full-throttle Darwinian mode. It's officially "Survival of the Fittest" at the Weaver joint, and even the dogs are contemplating a nice, quiet exit to "the farm." But it doesn't stop there. This illness is mainly a series of "tragedies," and the struggle to get through the cruel "daily grind" plays on every character's emotions, but none more than Lisa's.

This memoir is "the inside scoop."-a no holds barred account of the reality of Alzheimer's disease. The good news is Cerasoli's brave enough to tell it. The great news is, you won't want to put it down. The best news is, in the words of Thomas C. Adler, author of Campingly Yours, "This book will touch millions." And that's the point. As Nora Jo Fades Away is a great read with an even grander cause: to create action and awareness.

Professional Reviews

Highly Recommended - Award-winning
I highly recommend award-winning author, Lisa Cerasoli to you as an important and timely resource for anyone affected by Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

Lisa recently spoke at our largest ever Caregiver Conference in April of 2010 and captivated and cajoled an audience of 200+ to tears and laughter while helping affirm their caregiving experiences. She did this by talking about her experiences as a caregiver and reading from her new memoir, As Nora Jo Fades Away, Confessions of a Caregiver. The book just WON The 2010 Paris Book Festival, solidifying her talent as a writer. And a decade in Los Angeles as an accomplished actor ensures her capabilities as a comfortable and engaging public speaker.
Lisa’s direct and honest presentation style (which doesn’t pretty up the often painful days of caregiving) appeals to a whole new audience of caregivers and professionals seeking to understand, seeking how to help, and seeking a little peace-of-mind along the way.

As a natural story-teller, Lisa has uniquely captured both moments of despair and insight to re- tell as a gift to us. I like to describe her book as “The Notebook uncensored. It’s desperately funny, a gritty heartbreaker and it doubles as a caregiver’s survival guide.” This goes for her style of public speaking. Lisa Cerasoli is just the kind of spokesperson this illness has been waiting for. Do not miss an opportunity to let her skills as an author & speaker and her knowledge of caregiving pass you by. As she says in her memoir, “We care for Gram with compassion, and some good old-fashioned wit.”
We are grateful that Lisa and her family have chosen to support us with “A Buck A Book!” from the sale of her memoir. We feel lucky to have this new partnership. And I can say, you will, too.

If You Don't Laugh, You'll Cry
If You Don't Laugh, You'll Cry: From a very unsuspecting caregiver who went from Hollywood to Michigan (and some days out of her mind!) comes the touching and humorous memoir of Lisa Cerasoli entitled AS NORA JO FADES AWAY. The actress, ACE certified personal trainer and author shares her candid experiences of running a household as a wife and mother while caring for her "Gram" who suffers with Alzheimer's. It's no wonder this book was the winner of The 2010 Paris Book Festival.
