Ellie Jordan's lived a life of self-imposed punishment for several years. No one's ever tried to break down the walls around her heart. That is, no one except Professor Jay Bryant.

Therese Kinkaide

Ellie Jordan lives a self-imposed life sentence for poor judgment and mistakes made when she was little more than a child. Ellie is content to be alone, until a persistent college professor invites her to a family picnic. Though Ellie turns him down, she finds herself intrigued by his invitation.

Professor Jay Bryant is attracted to Ellie and pursues a friendship with her. Though Ellie lets Jay in as a friend, she fights falling in love with him. However, Ellie eventually finds herself entangled in Jayís familyís relationships and through the friendships she builds with Jay and his sisters, Ellie learns the power of forgiveness and love.

Excerpt

This kind of remembering is dangerous. The good kind has such narrow boundaries sheís almost always doomed to fail. She can live with memories, but sometimes the ghosts of the past haunt her and break her down to nothing, and she hates to become that person. She hates to feel, and she hates to lose control, and she hates to break. Each time it happens, it gets just a little bit harder to put herself back together.

Luther's Cross
Lutherís Cross, the newest book by author Therese Kinkaide, should come with a warning label: Caution-This book may inhibit the readerís ability to turn off the light and sleep. Lutherís Cross is a well-crafted story that delves into both the heart and mind of a young woman tortured by her past and unable to take hold of her future. Ellie is stuck with the heartache, guilt and grief over the loss of Luther, her young son.

Kinkaide draws the reader deep into the psyche and emotions of four characters whose lives intersect, and whose secrets keep them moving in a delicate dance with one another. In the end, the resolutions arenít all what the reader might expect.

Lutherís Cross is one of the best books Iíve read in a very long time. Therese Kinkaide is sure to become a shining star in the womenís fiction genre.

Luther's Cross
Lutherís Cross by Therese Kinkaide is a superbly crafted tale about two badly wounded souls, whose fates bring them together, to untangle their powerful lifeís traumas, and hidden secrets. What Ellie Jordan finds is Professor Jay Bryant and his dysfunctional family that try to keep her from feeling as though she is on the outside of lifeÖ looking in.

This authorís unique voice reveals the rambling emotional stream of consciousness of persons who have way too many suppressed dark secrets, dreaded guilts, and mysterious regrets darkening their minds. I found this book overflowing with emotional awakenings, enough to make you want to read the book all over againÖ right after youíve just finished the last page.

Regret and Guilt are a powerful poison. With so much remorse, Ellie Jordan has moments when everything kind of slows down like freeze-frame photos, when her blood sort of stops, like fire in her veins. She has had five long emotionally filled years of haunting regrets, wondering where her son, Luther, had gone that fateful night he disappeared. He represents who she has become in order to become a good mother for himÖ leaving her past indiscretions hidden deep within her heart.

Professor Jay Bryant, without knowing her past history, unwittingly stirs her fire of guilt and regret when he divulges he has his own small son, Oliver, shared with his ex-wife. Even his two sisters, Maeve and Maddie develop a kinship with Ellie, and endeavor to join her to the jigsaw puzzle of their family. Each shares her own web of dark secrets with this new comer, which threatens to tear the family apart.

Well plotted, there is a wealth of unfolding dark secrets at every turn. This is a wonderful suspense that will keep you turning pages to discover what guilt laden secret will be revealed next. And whether or not Ellie and Jay can overcome their emotional problems to create their own family, together?
