Deaconess Harriet Bedell was a missionary to the native Americans in Oklahoma and Alaska before she came to southern Florida in 1933. She worked with the Seminoles and sold their pathchwork clothing to all the major stores. She also taught them hygiene and helped the medicine man when they got white man's diseases. She was loved by them and by her neighbors in Everglades City.
In 2009 she was cannonized by the Episcopal Church. Her Feast Day is January 8, the anniversary of her death in 1969.
This little book tells her story with snippets from local people who knew her. It also gives some historical background about her Glade Cross Mission.
