In this provocative, insightful collection, the author delivers a long awaited full-body-blow to the strange and fatally-flawed ideologies of our time.

Once upon a time in America, ideas rooted in selfishness, greed, and lust were recognizable for what they are and instantly repudiated, but sadly, those days are mostly nothing but a vague memory. We live today, in a culture in which the most ridiculously transparent mendacities, excuses, rationalizations, and justifications for the lowest forms of human behavior are accepted with casual indifference. Tolerance is widely afforded to all but the veritable proclamation that a rule superior to human opinion exists. And the logical next-step--that the secret to human fulfillment, prosperity, and joy, is to follow that rule relentlessly--often incites open hostility. In the last century, an epidemic disease infiltrated mainstream American culture and it is now exported throughout the world. This disease does not originate from an exotic virus or bacterium, but rather from the misuse (or lack of use) of the human mind. Its primary symptom is the inability to engage issues, solve problems, and pursue high goals with critical thought and sound reason. Those who have lost these abilities are powerless to inspire others. Left untreated, mental atrophy sets in and the terminal stage is emotional and spiritual morbidity. I have named this deadly disorder, the Boobonic Plague, for it is no less dangerous than the Black Death that swept through 14th century Europe. Its symptoms, known as "boobonics," are the twisted ideas and attitudes that characterize the disease. (Any similarity between this label and the now-defunct "Ebonics" is not coincidental.) Boobonics is the language of New Age "religion" and secular humanism. As the manifestation of confused and troubled minds, boobonics blurs the distinctions between dignity and diffidence; liberty and license; respect and reticence. For too many Americans, it has become their native tongue. Excerpt
Brace yourself for one of only a handful of books that identifies and exposes the insane assertions of our time in a thought-provoking and humorous manner, while attributing to them, the ridicule they deserve.

Reader Reviews for "The Boobonic Plague: An American Epidemic"

Like to laugh in the face of danger? Then this book is for you. Each chapter takes a quick and tart slice-of-life look at how the constant cultural repetition of certain mindless (boobonic) words and phrases are doing just that--slicing away at our life, and our minds, one chunk at a time. Before long, and without help, the Boobonic Plague can overtake each one of us. So if you (as I did) suddenly realize that there YOU are, blathering away, almost mindlessly, just like too many others, get help quick. Read this book and find out how to inoculate yourself. (We each only have but so many brain cells to work with, you know. Let's keep as many of them as we can!)

Certainement, nous avons débouché sur un nouveau siècle. Malheureusement, partout où se manifeste l’humanité sur notre planète, elle accuse un état de détresse, une certaine désori..
