Anna Bentley gets more than she bargains for when she inherits a haunted Victorian home on the Northern California coast. The ghost lures her back in time to the year 1880, and right into his lusty arms. She solves the mystery of her adoption and falls in love with the rugged man whose very essence holds her in the past. Sea Captain James Duncan is set on avenging his father's exile from Scotland, until Anna appears quite suddenly onboard his lumber schooner. She is his destiny and the only person who can save his troubled soul.

Excerpt

A warm breeze blew in through the open French doors, beckoning her to answer its call. Rising slowly from the bed, she stretched languorously and stepped out onto the balcony. She had no fear of being seen nude. Alastair slept soundly in the room across the hall and she had locked her door before retiring. Anna stared up at the full moon winking down upon the silent grounds below. Closing her eyes, she reveled in the delicate sea breeze cooling her heated body. "Oh, James, my love. Where are you?" "Anna--" Her eyes flew open. Was he here? Impossible! Then she recalled her first days in the old house. James had appeared in the mirror's reflection and his voice had called her name in the arbor. Was it his ghost? Tenderly, long invisible fingers stretched over her breasts and the pressure of a man's naked form pushed against her from behind in a most familiar way. She would know his touch anywhere. "James, help me. I want to come back." Was she insane? Whispering into the moonlit darkness as she melted into her phantom lover's arms? Bristly whiskers tickled her ear and a deep voice hushed her fanciful illusions. "In the arbor, my love. 'Tis the secret." He was gone. Anna sensed the instant he left her. A cold chill ran up her spine. She must be mad! It was crazy to believe in ghosts. Or was it? The evidence was only in her mind, but she felt it in her heart as well. James was calling to her through time in the only way he could--his ghost--a mere shadow of his former stalwart self.

Kari Thomas - A Romance Review
Whisper of a Tryst is a wonderful story of fated love that endures even through time. This was a fast paced read, and the story was so memorable and beautiful. Christine took the typical time travel plot and turned it into a love story that is sure to be a keeper-book with many readers. The first sentence opens with the heroine having yet another erotic dream of an unknown lover, and the intriguing concept pulls you right into the rest of the story, keeping you turning the pages. Anna Bentley is the heroine, disillusioned by loves in the past but still the forever romantic. She mysteriously inherits a Victorian mansion on the northern California coast and it turns out to be haunted by the builder of the house who lived in the 1880’s. The ghost, James Duncan, lures her back into the past and Anna finds herself falling in love with him. James has a goal to avenge his father’s exile from Scotland and is determined to not let anything stand in his way. When Anna suddenly appears in his life, he knows her love is destined to save his soul. The love story of James and Anna is strong and passionate. There are also a few surprises in the story that keeps you turning those pages to figure them out. Ms. Poe’s portrayal of the time period is great, vivid and visual, helping to lose the reader in the story just as Anna is lost in the past. You’ll finish reading this book and find yourself wishing that it would go on, especially after reading the intriguing epilogue! This time travel plot was one of the best I’ve read and I would definitely recommend it to any reader of the genre.

This book had more twists and turns than a mountain road. Every time I thought the book was winding down toward the end, Christine Poe would throw another twist into the plot. This book definitely kept me turning pages in order to see how it would end.

Robin Peek - The Word On Romance
WHISPER OF A TRYST is the tale of two lonely people, who find each other across time. Both Anna and James are charming people who pull the reader into their story, feeling their emotions and heartaches. Handsome and sexy, James wants the lovely Anna as he has wanted no other. Why does she affect him so? Beautiful and full of fire, Anna falls for the handsome captain, but fearing she may change history fights the pull. I was intrigued by this romantic tale, with Anna finding her true love in the past simply fascinating. I chuckled when James tried to convince Anna that she's his destiny. In a normal romance it's usually the other way around with the woman trying to coax the man. WHISPER OF A TRYST moves along at a steady pace, with secondary characters lending insight and an air of friendliness to this exciting tale. There is even a villain or two in the tale, and one of them has a secret that is extraordinary. Ms. Poe pens an exciting, intriguing romantic tale with her book, WHISPER OF A TRYST. Well-created characters and a well-written story makes WHISPER OF A TRYST hard to put down. I found myself reading the book in one sitting, turning the pages to discover the outcome. I recommend WHISPER OF A TRYST for an enjoyable read to curl up on the couch with.
