Forrest Gump’s mother likened life to a box of chocolates.
A more appropriate analogy may be life is like
a potluck dinner. Everyone brings what they have to
the table. No one can be expected to bring something
they don’t possess. Likewise, parents bring what they
have to give to their children. Most everyone has issues
with their parents’ skills and are careful not to repeat
the mistakes. The majority of parents feel pretty smug
about their parenting skills until their own children are
grown. Although they have no children of their own,
in their twenties the offspring begin to share their
vast knowledge with the parents, careful to point out
each parenting mistake made during their childhood.
It is not until the cycle of life is complete that these
enlightened ones learn that they made just as many
mistakes with their children as did their own parents.
Being sixteen and nineteen years of age at the time
of my birth, my parents had little to bring to the table.

Journey to Fulfillment by Author Theresa Franklin
Every Woman Should Read This Book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Theresa has a very smooth writing style and keeps the reader interested. Journey to Fulfillment is a memoir, but not just a story about Theresa's life. She addresses issues in her life that affect so many people today. She deals with insecurity in the midst of success. Bitterness in her marriage. Communication problems. Many of the problems she faced are common in most relationships. I appreciate how Theresa learned how to deal with her husband's anger problem without sweeping the issues under the rug, and not becoming part of the problem through argumentation. I would explain more, but the story of her life does a better job than I can do here.
Theresa has an honest approach to facing the problems of life. She doesn't paint herself as perfect, nor does she vilify others. Learning how to step back and look at the problem and then to herself, and others was important for her in dealing with life's struggles. Rather than depending on others for fulfillment, she learned how to discover her identity in Christ, and then strengthen her relationships from a godly perspective. She failed and succeeded. As readers, we get to learn from her school of hard knocks.
Everyone should read this book, but especially those who feel inadequate in relationships or have to deal with hard family situations. This truly is a must read. You'll glean much from her life's story.

Theresa Franklin turned childhood darkness, pain and hardship, to profound convictions
Theresa Franklin turned childhood darkness, pain and hardship, to profound convictions, insight and style of teaching that shine like diamonds in the rough terrain on which parents and teachers tread. Her writing sings with vivid description of moving episodes, life's patterns and desires. All too familiar to most. And her message resonates with power, so deep, all parents and teachers need to embrace. Journey to Fulfillment is truly a journey not just for educators, but for anyone trying to learn what brings true fulfillment. And those who need to see how joy fills our soul when we use our life and passion and dreams to impact others. The pages in Journey to Fulfillment bring such basic, yet profound insights as this: "... one student was in trouble for a year, one student was in trouble for probably the fourteenth time in two weeks. I stood over his desk and reprimanded him severely. As I listened to my voice and watched his little head hung low, I thought, Theresa, you have to change this. You cannot let this child leave the room feeling bad. I deliberately softened my voice and said, "Now, Daniel." Before I could finish the statement, without raising his head, he said, "I know, I know. You love me because I am me, not because of what I do or say. As long as I am me, you are going to love me. It is my behavior that you do not like. You love me but not my behavior."The lesson in Journey to Fulfillment: true fulfillment and satisfaction comes when we resolve to use our experiences, trials and triumph in our own life to turn another life around.
