This is the first of a 7-volume series of Yah and the Space Cadets. The series narrates the adventures of twelve young explorers, including Yah, who is the son of Emperor Annur and Empress Nisbar. Their purpose is to establish a viable civilization in a far corner of the universe.
This incredible saga starts with the discovery of a faraway planet by the Watchers, a special breed of beings, subjects of Annur, Emperor of Zorec. The Watchers assure Annur that the discovered planet can sustain life because it has plenty of water. Annur decides to send his son, Yah, accompanied by eleven of his friends from the Academy to confirm the statements of the Watchers and, if true, to begin preparing the planet for a future civilization. The trip takes just over two years to complete and requires the Audacious (the flagship) to cross the Eanono Wormhole.
Along the way the young cadets —most of them between the ages of fourteen and fifteen— together with a crew of Tesgans, Lesgans and Cargans, begin to acquire special powers. They learn the mystery of animal domestication, the making of thunder balls, spears, and other thunderous projectiles that can change the mood of others; they also learn and practice the modification of creatures, the Art of Swift Adjustments to Different Surroundings (ASADS) —an art that empowers them with the ability to move mountains or make volcanoes explode— they acquire the gift of being “Prudent not Fearful,” the ability to become invisible at will, and they also become foreseers and retro-seers, the talent to see future and past events with absolute clarity.
However, they are not alone. During their deep-space travel they discover that their own civilization has tenacious enemies: The Tamorts, ruled by the evil Queen Mella Kreffa (“Her Stellar Wisdom”), and the Herptiles under the ruthless command of Emperor Fangus Crotal, an old and vicious monarch.
The first volume, “Well Before the Beginning – The First Expedition,” ends after the young cadets make a black hole explode in order to displace a thick interstellar cloud and allow some light to reach the discovered planet. There will be a total of seven expeditions.

“How did he manage to escape?” asked Ada.
“He jumped off the platform while the pole was swaying under a strong wind. He managed to grab the post and then made it down safely. He then disappeared. The following morning the guards noticed he was missing and started an intense search to recapture him, but were unsuccessful. They decided to cover up their mistake and have denied, to this day, that someone managed to defeat the prison system.”
“Do you have any idea where Nostcal may be located?” asked Ada.
“If I did, I would tell you, but no one knows,” answered the system.
“Surely, you must have an idea as to an escape route,” typed Ada.
“There are billions of possibilities. Too many planets to hide in,” said the system.
