What is it about the bad boy that girls seem to love?

Morgan meets Mathew just shy of her thirteenth birthday.  Boy in a Band follows their relationship into adulthood.   Mathew’s ability to toy with her emotions and keep her interest is uncanny.   With his stereotypical California surfer boy good looks he becomes the leader of a rock band where he is conflicted between good boy/bad boy.

The story takes place in the seventies when rock and roll got crazier as did people’s attitudes.  This is not your typical, predictable, Cinderella story, but will still tug at your heart.  The book will take the reader back in time to first love, the feelings and frustrations, the innocence.  Spanning the thirty four years they know each other readers will relate to their feelings, experiences, and struggles.

Excerpt

I looked into his blue eyes, at times so intense, at times so mischievous, he was happy I could tell. How many times had I looked into those eyes and seen other things? My thoughts raced back to when we first met. I could see him in his room playing the guitar. I remembered the angle of his face and his long blonde hair. What had he played? I reached back. Oh yeah Classical Gas. "Have you ever heard it?" he'd asked. We had come such a long way. He put his hands on both sides of my face and tilted his head slowly to the side. I closed my eyes and waited for his lips to touch mine remembering how much I could want him.

Lisa Loomis's book Boy In A Band is filled with the kind of emotional pathos that only a first love can conjure up. Every woman has had a Matthew in their life and Lisa captures the heartache and heartbreak that comes with unrequited love.

A great beach and summertime read!

A friend told me about this book and it sounded like a fun read - especially because there are so few novels out there that feel "real." Boy in a Band had a theme that I could relate to, so I thought I would give it a try. From the moment I started reading it - I knew it was different than anything I'd read before. Morgan, the central character, reminded me so much of myself and my friends during a time when we were young, unsure of ourselves, yet bold (foolish?) enough to experience life and be daring. I truly felt transported back to those days where infatuation meant EVERYTHING. I could truly relate to Morgan in her struggle to be true to herself while trying to control her love-riddled impulses. This story was original, compelling, and impossible to put down! I sure hope Lisa Loomis writes another one soon, because I will buy it without a second thought.

Wow, great story line. Very well written. Pulled me in from the first sentence and still hasn't let me go. I laughed out loud and cried real tears during my reading adventure. Made me think about "my Matthew" and where he is now. My only problem with the book was it wasn't long enough. I hated it to end. More, more please! Looking forward to more from this author.

Reader Reviews for "Boy in a Band"

Reviewed by Sue McMahan 12/22/2011
I loved reading this book!! I had a first love who I have always kept a special place in my heart for. This was an easy read and I gave it to my neighbor and then both my sisters to read. Morgan reminded me of myself, and another close girlfriend of mine, growing up and going through our LOVE problems and great times!! Great story line , I am looking forward to another book from Lisa Loomis.
