I knew right then and there I was in trouble when he said that. And there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.
It was supposed to be a simple break-in, a sort of hit-and-run assault. The mark was a middle-aged jeweler who conducted a lot of private transactions out of his home. He had a salt-and-pepper beard and a slight paunch and old-styled horn-rimmed glasses that made him look like he belonged in the 1950’s. He had what you could call a trophy wife: a bleached blonde bimbo at least half his age who couldn’t even begin to appreciate the value of his merchandise, only the perks it afforded her. Maybe she gave good head; I didn’t see any reason why someone of his class and taste would have married her. Unless, of course, it was solely for the oral sex.
