Professional Reviews
Fairly Recommended
I must praise the author’s good intention to write a children’s book for grade 4 to 6. The protagonists, Joey and his sister Penny, also deserve two thumbs up for their courage and initiative in helping their friends in Panda Valley. Despite its intended audience, this inspiring work is more suitable for older children, such as grade 8 to 12, due to the storyline, complex sentences and advanced vocabularies.
The setting of the story is in China and some of the names are Chinese names, except for Joey, Penny and some of their friends’. Without conducting a thorough historical research on the region’s history, a book would sound shallow and not professional. I cannot say anything about Rick E. Patton’s book, but that was my first impression. Historically correct? Perhaps not. Entertaining? Somewhat. Educational? Very.
The Adventures of Joey Panda is a fiction about friendship, courage and ability to reach appropriately in the midst of crisis. I like the moral of the story.
