Anthony F. Rando dedicates this book to God and explains that after recovering from a hit-and-run accident, he felt the need to express his feelings through poetry. I’ll bet Rando never thought he’d be thankful for a God-incident in the form of a car wreck, but I am sure he is using this inspiration to reach others for Christ. Perhaps his poem titled “Simple Reminder” is the most poignant as it says “Ironic but true, death is here for you.”
Rando writes about what he has lived, covering topics ranging from love and loss to nature. In his piece titled “We Are Friends,” I get the feeling that Rando is talking about God when he says, “You lift me up, You renew me, You brighten every minute I’m with you and make every day worth living.” I enjoyed “Mother’s Poetry” where he started each line with a letter in the word 'mother', spelling it out while extolling the virtues of his mom.
It was interesting to read about the author’s background, having been born to Italian immigrants in New York in 1978 and being the first in his family to pursue a post secondary education. This background helps the reader identify with Rando and experience his emotion through his poems on a more personal level.
As the book cover promises, “After The Storm” is a book of poetry that refreshes the soul. Rando uses a lot of imagery involving the ocean, which produces a calming, refreshing effect.
