A Hint of Scandal

Payton Jones, a young P.I. sets out to prove herself to the crime-solving community by taking on a kidnapping case. She encounters a handsome detective intent on teaching her the trade, and she cannot deny the incredible attraction between them. What's more, the man behind the kidnapping may be someone close to her. Will she let the mistakes of the past threaten her future or allow her heart to decide her fate?

Excerpt

"Payton, what is that? What's going on?"
"I don't know. Someone’s at the door." She stood up and when the door flew open, she threw herself to the floor.
"Payton?"
Barely breathing, she whispered, "Bruce? Someone just broke into my apartment."
"Hang on, Payton. I'll be there in five minutes. Try to stay hidden."
That was the last thing she heard before she was yanked up against a hard form and shrieking, she elbowed the man in the face. She felt a hard slap across her face, and a cloth covered her mouth. Then there was only darkness.
