Tales of the Amphoterics is a tale for dreamers and adventurers of all ages who still believe in the magic of fantasy and legend.

Impenetrable mountains to the North, East and West shield the lush valley below from the outside world of a long, distant past. The fast currents and cold waters of a mighty river to the South complete the formidable barrier to all who attempt to leave or enter. Legends tell us that no one ever successfully scaled the peaks or swam the river to escape the tyranny of this land ruled by the ruthless Lords of the East, West, North and South.

In the spring of an as yet unknown year, Lord Tortoiseshell and Lord Angora prepare a battle plan to once and for all rid the Land of Cats and Dogs of all its mice and rabbit pests. That same spring an unusually large number of new births occur in select families of mice and rabbits and even among the cats and dogs.

At first the new youngsters appear as normal as everyone else. By the sixth week many of these youngsters began to look quite unusual. In the following weeks their appearances are so unusual that they cause fear in the mice and rabbit homes, and severe consternation and confusion in the cat and dog homes.

To perhaps challenge the tyranny of its rulers, twenty-four of the half-one and half-another Amphoterics had been born into the Land of Cats and Dogs. The Kittymice are part cat and part mouse, and Katie is as beautiful as Karlton is handsome and vigorous. The Bunnydogs are part dog and part rabbit. Bobbie and Bonnie Bunnydogs are gentle and playful, but just as courageous and natural leaders as Karlton and Katie Kittymice.

On the last day of new kitten training, Karlton Kittymouse refuses three direct orders to search for and capture his first mouse. His furious tomcat trainers accuse him of treason and threaten him with permanent banishment. To avoid banishment Karlton's father, Sir Konrad demands his right as King Tabbinius's champion to trial by combat between Karlton and a kitten of the tomcat trainers' choice. This will be the first such combat in almost a generation in the entire Land of Cats and Dogs.

If Karlton is victorious will he be allowed to not hunt mice, or will he and the other Amphoterics be forced to flee in search of the sanctuary of a legendary Magic Forest on the far side of the as yet impassable river?
