Drawn from my vast experience as a psychotherapist, my insights and accompanying case studies lure readers into the therapy hour, creating a safe place for them to contemplate their own issues. My case studies touch on the concept of change in clear, inspiring ways, echoing an integral motivation for reading self-help books: The desire to change in order to improve your relationships and feel better about yourself.
I show readers that true change requires the investment of time and energy, and my case studies illuminate how this substantial investment can yield high dividends!

“BEING” is an elusive phenomena for many people. Our hurried lives, with multiple roles and concurrent responsibilities, leave us little time to sit in silence; this sitting in silence, though, is what allows us to figure out where we really are and to get in touch with ourselves. With practice, BEING can extend to non-quiet times, as well.
BEING takes many forms: BEING alone, BEING fully engaged in a conversation, BEING in the moment, and BEING happy are just a few of the many ways TO BE. Sometimes just being is difficult because we have been taught to always BE PRODUCTIVE; to be a Human DOING instead of a Human BEING! Other times, in the void of being productive, we experience the thoughts and feelings we have been working hard to avoid!
Stacy, age 25, lived with her parents until she graduated from college and secured a full-time job. She began therapy because she was very anxious about being alone after she moved into her own home. Even the distraction of the television was not enough to quell her anxiety.
Stacy came to understand that she was trying to avoid feeling vulnerable. In addition to instituting appropriate safety measures, Stacy learned how to comfort herself when she was anxious. By the time therapy terminated, Stacy was able to enjoy quiet time in her home.
