Sanctuary

Colonel Anton Fahn seeks revenge against the underground members who destroyed the vital fuel reserves in France that were entrusted under his protection. He decides to loot all the communities across France and Italy on his way to Bergamo where he had been informed Father Damien resides as the leader of the underground. He convinces his battalion that they have been reassigned to defensive positions in Italy as reinforcements to that area. He ignores his orders to report to Berlin as a call for reprimand that could only have fatal consequences.

Father Damien prepares for his arrival and requests rescue from the 92nd infantry Division in Genoa. He organizes his defenses of Bergamo to stall the German advances long enough to be rescued by the "Buffalo Soldiers" of the 5th army.

Colonel Fahn takes the necessary time to hide his plunder in Switzerland before taking his final revenge against the priest. He risks his own freedom to backtrack on his path to seek his revenge.

Excerpt

Never before has a story so bold been described in such vivid detail as to allow the reader to experience the events of World War II in Italy. Through the eyes of a Priest, Father Damien allows the reader to feel the emotions of losing his best friend and fellow practitioner of the faith, Father Davern. He reveals the hidden conflict within when his other friends are killed at the hands of the same renegade German occupation force. The leader of the German battalion is linked to war crimes and wanted by the Allied Forces. He is hunted by his own German army for deserting his outpost destroyed by the French underground. Bent on revenge the German Officer Colonel Anton Fahn pursues one of Father Damien’s friends, Mathew Gillespie a member of the underground to Bergamo, Italy. Mathew Gillespie destroyed the fuel reserves and along with that Colonel Fahn’s military career.

Colonel Fahn decides to make his campaign of revenge a profitable adventure across France and Italy by taking everything of value from the communities he raids. Father Damien struggles with the responsibilities left to him by Mathew Gillespie. The leader of the underground dies in his arms from the torturous injuries he received at the hands of Colonel Fahn. Father Damien organizes a final stand to repel the advances of Colonel Fahn into Bergamo. The American forces are nearing from Genoa as Colonel Fahn risks capture or death to take his revenge instead of freedom in Switzerland. The choices Colonel Fahn makes on his journey contribute to the reconciliation of faith in Father Damien, the Priest. He is now charged with the responsibility to safeguard and protect his parishioners who have sought Sanctuary in his church.
