When a new bride's husband disappears, she is forced to confront her worst fears about herself. A modern literary gothic.

"Marry in haste, repent at leisure." Portrait painter Sara Elliott has never been afraid of risk. Moving to London, pawning her jewelry, taking difficult commissions, Sara lives life on the edge. But when she agrees to marry a stranger days before he is scheduled to leave the country, even Sara wonders if she has gone too far. Over the coming months, alone and uncertain of her future, Sara drifts into an uneasy routine waiting for her husband, Miles, to return. When an unexpected letter suddenly threatens her plans for a settled existence, Sara is forced to question everything she thought she once knew about Miles, her present situation, and her own mysterious past. Caught between her imagination and her desire for the truth, Sara worries she is losing her mind, or worse: has she been OVERTAKEN by a power beyond her control?

Dark, Intriguing Fairy Tale; Review by Sherry Ellis
Overtaken is the story of Sara, a young woman who can't make heads or tails of the life she's in. It's all shrouded in mystery and confusion. Things get really crazy after she marries Miles, a man she has only known for three days. He leaves on a business trip and doesn't return. Alone in a house that seems to purr, she becomes delusional, having realistic dreams that take her into another world filled with magic and danger. As she flits between the world she thinks she knows and the mysterious world, she learns how the two are entwined and discovers the truth about herself.

Overtaken is a real page-turner. Readers will be captivated, wondering if Sara is truly delusional, or if there really is another world. It's a story with all the makings of a fairy tale - a "princess," a villian, and a handsome "prince." It's a little darker than a child's fairy tale, though. There are murders, black magic, and a "princess' who drinks a little too much. With its rich descriptive writing and well-paced action, Overtaken is a book that will appeal to adults who haven't lost their love of fairy tales.
