The Official Essentially Raw Website & Blog

America is the most overfed yet undernourished nation in the world. Let's change that and begin to eat to enhance not only our health but beauty.

The Standard American Diet is defined by it's acronym, SAD. In a world where sea-salt covered pretzels and a diet soda are considered healthy alternatives, Marie Sarantakis provides an accessible introductory guide to pure and healthy eating. Marie's approach is simple and realistic. We need to integrate more raw fresh fruits and vegetables into our diets on a daily basis. This no nonsense guide will answer your basic questions, teach you the fundamental benefits of pure food, and provide you with ten days worth of raw vegan recipes. Life is too short not to eat raw and it's even shorter if you don't.

Professional Reviews

Essentially Raw is Essentially Great
Overall I was quite impressed. This book was informative and fun to read. The author didn't use crazy jargon and interjected humor into the text frequently. Essentially Raw serves as a great introductory guide for those who are just getting started.

I really liked that it wasn't fanatical. The stuff I read online is too extreme whereas this book was about simply eating better, why and how. There are lots of lists provided which tell you the benefits of eating certain foods. I often refer to these for reference.

The only downside to this book is that a couple of the recipes that I wanted to try required a dehydrator, but the author made that clear from the beginning. It has even inspired me to buy a dehydrator so I can try the raw pizza recipe. The dessert recipes in particular are superb (tried everything so far except the spicy raw Spanish brownies).

A good buy with the right mix of reading and recipes. Very satisfied and refer to this book frequently.
