Grace saw him first. She dates only the wealthiest men she can entice with her style and beauty, and insists they show how much they appreciate the privilege by lavishing her with expensive gifts. However at thirty, she is tired of these men often being so much older and demanding of her time. She drinks and parties convincing herself she is having fun, until she meets the wealthiest and handsomest man she ever laid eyes on.
Bette tried to resist. The thirty year old church going virgin is Grace's best friend since high school. She admires her friends confidence but disapproves of Grace's whorish behavior. Bette has dreams of falling deeply in love and marrying before all the good men are taken. She meets Jackson and he immediately makes up his mind to pursue her, though she objects, she realizes he is getting into her heart.
Jackson is the object of their desires. He is the estranged son of one of the wealthiest men in America. He is a man that is used to getting what he wants. After meeting Bette, and a few casual dates with Grace, he becomes more than interested in Bette and makes up his mind he will capture and keep her affections. Even though he knows the women are best friends and that Bette is just starting a romance. Her objections to his advances only fuel the fire of his growing desire.
Jamal strolled up to Jackson’s offered hand and looked at it then up at Jackson’s bemused face. “I’m not here for a social call, Simmons.”
“Well, I had hoped otherwise,” Jackson put his hand in his pants pocket. “Even though, this isn’t exactly breaking my heart.”
“I’d settle for your jaws, asshole.”
“Anytime you think you’re ready.”
“I’ll remember you said that. However, today I just thought I’d let you in on a few things. First and foremost, you ain’t keeping Bette. I’ll figure out something.”
“You got a second thing?” Jackson asked, sounding bored, crossing his arms.
“Yeah. I know all about you and your father.”
“If you really know anything about my father you’d keep what you know about him to yourself. Believe me everything you heard is true.”
“Don’t sweat it, Simmons. I’m not thinking blackmail. I’m just referring to your style.”
“In how you do business and handle yourself privately. You are just like him, aren’t you? You despise him, yet you live by his example.”
“What does anything I do have to do with you?”
“Well, let’s see. You stole my girl right from under my nose, and I’m taking it bad, man! Real bad!”
“Keep your voice down. This is a place of business,” Jackson barked. Uncrossing his arms he said, “We both met a woman and went after her and she made her choice. Wasn’t any plot to steal her.”
“There’s one more thing. Simmons, I intend to ruin you, first, by running this agency into the ground. In business we are evenly matched I’d say, as long as you keep the old man out of it.” He noted the rise of Jackson’s surprised brow and laughed. “Oh yes, I know all about your industries and enterprises and the fact that you and your father are still joined in some business. But that isn’t what I’m interested in.”
“I just want my girl back, and you out of Chicago.”
“So ruining me is supposed to get you Bette’s love?”
“I’m sure I can get her back easily enough, going against you in business is just between us. I know I can beat you, and I know you have the arrogance to think otherwise, just on the principle you are a Simmons.”
“Seems like you’ve done your homework,” Jackson stated. “Fine, then let the games begin.”
