An elderly woman wakes in a nursing home a thousand miles from her homeland. How and why she ended up there is a mystery that must be solved if she is to gain her freedom.
When an elderly woman wakes in a nursing home, she finds herself not only in a strange place, but discovers she is a thousand miles from her home. There seems to be only hopelessness for Nellie Bell. There is that box in the corner of her small room that someone was kind enough to leave, and among the scant mementos of her life, she finds her journal.
There's magic in that old journal, not just for Nellie, but for the other residents of Beacon Manor. Join Nellie on her voyage of self-discovery, and escape with her in the yellowed pages of her journal, as you travel along through, The Flowers of Reminiscence.
SOWING THE SEEDS
Nellie Blue Bell toiled once more to reminisce on this chilly night,
which found her once again, sitting in a chair made familiar to her
aged body by the passing of time. It seemed to her that her old brain
was a ball of bread dough requiring kneading to attempt to recollect
or draw out memories hidden deep within the recesses. The months
passed slowly in those long hours of thought. Still, she found herself
no closer to an answer. She questioned why it had happened to her,
but refused to indulge in self-pity tonight.
She thought, and revisited, how the handyman back at her home
in West Virginia tacked down that annoying piece of carpet covering
the treads of the worn stairs. Frowning in thought, the lines on her
face grew deep. She nearly always used the rail leading upstairs as an
added precaution. The well-traveled steps creaked the years with her
footsteps; so many times in fact she wore a path in the old carpet.
Sure, there were the odd few times she stumbled. But she would
catch herself, and pause on the staircase to allow her panicked heart
to return to normal. Old people did that, but what puzzled her most
was recollecting a hand on her back, a sharp blow. She shook her
head as if she would jar loose a thought and return back to that
particular day in West Virginia. Aged minds can play tricks. Still, with
each night of thought, she felt sure she had not stumbled or tripped.
Who would have done this to her and, more importantly, why would
A Touching Story

"What a wonderful and touching story. I fell in love with the character, Nellie, right from the start. The story line was so well written that I felt I knew Nellie. I could feel her joy, her sorrow and found myself laughing right along with her when she played her hilarious little pranks. What a great way to tell the story of her life through her book of flowers and their significance in her life. I would definitely recommend this book. Hope there are more books coming from this author."
"The story line is an unforgettable. I read it within a day because I couldn't put it down. I recommended this book to my mother, who works in a nursing home and has great compassion for those in there. The author does an excellent job telling the story of Nellie's eventful life. The book has a postitive and influential message, and reminds us that we all have a story to tell, and to listen to those stories especially from our elders
