Chapter One

The advertisement appeared in the village paper's Friday edition tucked amidst offers of brocade settees, velvet curtains--worn slightly, and candlesticks guaranteed from the late Tudor period. Vanessa Threadbolt chanced by the article as she idly perused the paper at the Vicar's late tea given each Friday afternoon in honor of the women parishioners'most dedicated church work.

Ms Rich has woven a nice little Gothic that evokes the historical atmosphere without the reader having to slog through pages of description. It's fast paced and entertaining. Good for all ages.
