In this fast-paced tale of suspense, an idealistic newlywed confronts the growing madness that lurks just below her husband's veneer of normalcy.

Young newlyweds Todd and Bridget met at a two-hour seminar and took an immediate liking to each other. Smart, caring, and quick-thinking individuals, very much in love, they've been devoted to each other and like two peas in a pod right from the start. But, when Bridget learns bizarre and alarming things about Todd, things that he's kept hidden from her until their honeymoon, their idyllic romance begins careening out of control.

Todd has high hopes and wants nothing more than for Bridget to understand and be part of his world. As Bridget struggles to understand things, and the situation escalates, the events that unfold will put their sanity and love for each other to the test.

"Into the Arms of Madness" is a psychological thriller that will keep you locked in its embrace until the last page.

An Absorbing and Unusual Story about Love and Madness
Two young newlyweds' hopes for a happy ever after start to fall apart in a horrifying way shortly after they leave for their honeymoon. Taking place over a few very long and increasingly terrifying days, the story is both heartbreaking and mesmerizing and I kept rooting for everything to work out for Bridget and Todd. The author is a great story teller and with each new twist and complication, Bridget's dilemma (some of it self-imposed) became more and more palpable. I wanted to be scared of Todd, but found myself drawn to him instead. He was a really wonderful guy -- just a little off his rocker!

Original and well-written and the plot moves along at a brisk pace. It's a great read and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys novels that have elements of both psychological suspense and horror.

And I Thought I Was Crazy!!!
I received a free copy of this book from the author, through LibraryThings; an honest review was requested.

"Into the Arms of Madness: A Novel of Suspense" by Regina Pacelli could not have been better named. Her character development is superb, bringing her characters to life. She has developed a mad man unlike any other in fiction that I know of. Even the whole mildly insane family rings true. This is a really potent story, and the suspense is almost enough to bring on an ulcer. This is a story you will want to add to your list of books to be read. It is a very well-written story, but also a very good tale.

The story begins with a pair of newlyweds heading to a honeymoon cabin on a lake. Almost immediately the bride sees a side of her new husband that he kept well hidden throughout their 18 months of dating. She also meets his rather strange and bizarre family for the first time... at the honeymoon cabin. She soon begins to catch him in a web of lies; some are lies of commission, others are lies of omission. Unable to believe the evidence she sees and hears with her own senses, she tries to convince herself she's just exhausted from the wedding and the drive, and not really thinking straight. She tells herself it'll look better in the morning. But nothing looks better in the morning. Conversely, it looks worse and worse with each passing hour. She sees a totally opposite side of him from any that she has seen before, yet she feels compelled to assume she is somehow at fault, perhaps having said or done something that upset him. Continuing to profess her undying love for him, she literally puts her life in his hands.

This story climaxes in a drug-induced haze of unreality. I can't say any more without spoiling it for you. But I WILL say this book will hold onto you until you finish reading it. Don't expect to get anything else done until you finish this book. I recommend that you get it, but I suggest you not start reading it until you can set aside an appropriate block of time to finish it. I believe that after you finish reading it, you will be recommending it to all your friends. I also believe your friends will all thank you for the recommendation after THEY have finished reading it.

Enjoyable But Horrifying Journey Into Madness
"Into The Arms Of Madness" starts off on the day of Todd and Bridget's wedding. Right from the beginning Bridget describes Todd as "a good person-smart, easy going, caring, funny and loyal". He is a consultant and currently he is the technical lead of a large scale computer infrastructure implementation project. Bridget works as a customer service analyst although she received her degree in anthropology and feels they were both made for each other-they compliment each other. Although as the days leading up to their wedding, she notices Todd would get moods where he would be withdrawn, moody...just not his usually easy going self. She chalks this up to wedding day jitters.

The wedding and reception is the first time she has ever met any of Todd's family except his brother whom she met and they had dinner with once. Bridget finds his family to be a bit of strange ducks with the comments they have made to her. One odd comment had to do with her weight and that maybe she should put a few extra pounds on since Todd's first wife was plumper. She just figures with their strangeness, is it any wonder Todd didn't want to talk about them?

The next morning they planned to drive to the lake where they have rented a cabin to spend their honeymoon week. While packing the car Bridget finds a few strange things in the trunk; rope, a hunting knife and a dart gun to name a few. Todd's explanation is the lake and cabin is remote and they are just in case items. Since it is true that the cabin is in a remote area she decides to just go with it. Then on the drive there Todd goes into one of his silent moods eventually telling Bridget that he loves her and asking if she loves him repeating part of the wedding vow, "in sickness and in health, for better or worse". She reassures him that she loves him no matter what. He then tells her that they need to talk about something to do with him and his family once they get to the cabin. Bridget wonders what could be so bad to bring on this kind of questioning and dark mood over Todd and starts wondering different kinds of possible scenarios. Of course the reality of it never once entered into one of the scenarios she came up with. I don't want to give anything away but I do want to say I did not see the ending coming. I just hope Ms. Pacelli has another book coming soon.

Regina Pacelli has written a strong, very good, enjoyable first novel. If any of her future books are as good she has a long career ahead of her. If you like your books to be suspenseful, if you like your books with a psychological bent, if you like a good thriller then "Into the Arms of Madness" is the book for you.
