The second book in the Barbarossa to Berlin series, The Defeat of Germany takes a chronological look at the Soviet counter attack at Stalingrad, Manstein's enigmatic counter stroke in the spring of 1943 through to the Battle of Kursk in the summer. Following the German defeat and the subsequent retreat the Red Army unleashed a devastating series of operations throughout 1944 which liberated occupied Soviet territory and took the war home to the Germans. The defeat of the Reich in 1945 saw the Soviet conquest of much of Eastern Europe, and the dawn of a new world order.
The Defeat of Germany follows the style of The Long Drive East, following the activities of the combatants through the main sectors of the combat line.
