An unlikely bond is forged between three men from very different backgrounds when they serve time together in prison. A series of wrong turns and disastrous life choices has led to their incarceration. Following their release, Mangle, Decker and Tazeem stick together as they return to a life of crime, embarking on a lucrative scam.

But when they stumble upon a sophisticated sex-trafficking operation, they soon realise that they are in mortal danger. The dissapearance of a family member and the murder of a dear friend lead the three to delve deeper into a world of violence and deception. In their quest for justice they put their lives on the line.

Their paths cross with that of Tatiana, who has left her home country for a better life in the West - or so she thinks. She soon realises she is in the hands of ruthless, violent people, who run an operation supplying girls to meet the most deviant desires of rich and powerful men.

Will she survive the horrors of The Zombie Room? Are Mangle, Decker and Tazeem brave enough to follow her there, in an attempt to set her free?

Zombie Room by R D Ronald - A Night Owl Reviews Book Review
If you think this is a paranormal book, it isn’t. However, if you’re looking for an action-packed tale with dark highlights, then this is the right story for you. I found this an excellent read; most readers will be turning page after page to find out what happens next. Very well crafted, with each twist and turn designed to entice the reader to read just a few more pages. The cluster of characters were intense; each one (Tazeem, Mangle, Decker, Tatiana to name a few) have diverse backgrounds which aid in covering this tale from beginning to end. The realism makes the novel dark, gritty, and confined.

Each main character is tough due to hardships endured prior to their initial meeting. At no time did Mr. Ronald’s novel dip into exploring in greater detail the tawdriness of the Zombie Room, which he could have; thus, illustrating a great plot without compromising standards for a few moments of cheap thrills. The situations are based in reality, which provides the reader the depth of understanding without rehashing old events.

The diversity of characters, situations, and complexities helps the reader understand how each character became a part of this group intent on helping someone other than themselves. The “heroine” (Tatiana), is a plucky, deaf young woman intent on saving a few young ladies from a seedy world. The “anti-heroes” (Tazeem, Mangle, Decke) are three young men who made mistakes in their past, but want a fresh start to do something with their lives, yet they’re not sure what. It isn’t until a tragedy befalls these characters that it becomes clearer what they want to do. When all four paths intersect, they unite with only one goal in mind. There are crosses, double-crosses, and a few unexpected twists to this plot, which made me stay up all night to read this one to the end. I’m looking forward to Mr. Ronald’s next novel to see what else he pulls out of his hat of tricks.
