April Alisa Marquette

This is the continuing story of the Cohorts, three women and buff, beautiful Beau, who was once their gay male roommate. Now everyone should be older and wiser...

Now the four friends deal with things they’d previously never expected. Amid their signature drama, Beau's long lost mother—the woman who abused him as a child—has re-surfaced. Can she really be involved…with Beau’s skanky former lover? What do Momma Dearest and ‘the ex’ want? It is it fact or fiction that one of the cohorts is deceased… Like its predecessor, Progression is a ride! Thought provoking, wicked and sexy; readers may shed tears one moment then laugh out loud the next!

What a surprise! Sandal scurried through the food court, and spotted Beau.

Oh. Sandal stopped short because that cousin of Beau's was there, and that too thin, yellow sista-girl.

Ooh look, Sandal mused, backing up and taking a seat where he'd not be noticed. There were two others opposite Beau. Who were they?

Uh-oh! The older woman, someone Beau had never introduced Sandal to, jumped up. Well, she struggled up really. Sandal wanted to hear, but he couldn't; in the food court there was too much noise, but he guessed trouble brewed.

Sandal looked at his oversized watch that had started to turn his skin green. Shoot! It was time. He needed to meet Rodrigo on the lower level.

Well Rodrigo would have to wait, even though he hit hard, when things didn’t go his way. Still, Sandal had to see how this would play out. Especially now that Beau's trio faced off with the woman, while her man remained seated. Scuzzball.

Ooh! Sandal wished he were closer as Beau 'n them left. Why, he wondered, did hard-life woman and messed-up-man remain? Sandal rose. When Beau nor anyone else looked back, he felt it safe to proceed.

Purposely, he circumvented people because he had to get to the forgotten couple before they too left. He had to say something. Again he glanced at his large fake designer watch. He also saw the woman slap the man. Sandal wondered if he should just forget it, and skip on down the escalator, because stocky Rodrigo hated to be kept waiting. It hurt awful when he didn't get his way.

However, the split-second decision was made when Sandal neared the woman who collected her purse. Up close, Sandal thought what a gawd-awful animal outfit, and that face! She needed a serious makeover, and new teeth, to replace those broken brown ones.

Summoning his meager 'acting' skills however, Sandal thought he appeared puzzled. "Uh, excuse me." His voice was high, "Was that Beau I saw?"

The woman looked him over.

Her shark-beady eyes told Sandal she was interested. Therefore, he coyly said, "He’s my friend you know..."

Ophelia's heart beat faster, as Thomas buried his chin in his chest. To the faggotty little stranger, she slowly stated, "He's my son, you know..."

The Cohorts are back!
When I read Absolution last year, Book 1 of the Cohort Series, I fell into the dramatic world of best friends that stick through the trials of life and remain friends. The trials they endured were ones that many readers face in day-to-day life, and the author managed to capture the drama, the tension, and the true feel of absolute faith among true friends.

Progression, Book 2 in the Cohort Series, continues with the lives of characters the reader will love from the outset. The characters from the first novel are reintroduced, and I expected them all to be a bit wiser than what they had been in the past. Progression showed me otherwise, that even though the passage of time should make us wiser, there are still some moments where our heart out rules the mind.

Ms. Marquette continues to display her fantastic skill in pulling the reader into a believable word that made me laugh, cry, and feel the intense anger and unjustness that unravels around each of the characters, and I discovered myself applauding their triumphs.

"Progression" continues with the foundation laid and characters of "Absolution." The Cohorts return and drama is their middle name.

April Alisa Marquette's second book is a great piece of work. She has another winner. Marquette 's imagination is vivid, her characters lively and the story flowed well. I'm looking forward to the third part of this trilogy.

'Progression' is a wonderful story with lots of ups and downs, and a few surprises that made me laugh! This is an amazing story and I can't wait to finish the others in the series.
