Excerpt
When she stepped off the plane, it was the smell she noticed first. Dust and heat. It was not unpleasant, just different. Dragging her bags, she looked across the pavement to see a jeep. A man leaned against it. His arms were crossed over his chest and a hat lay atop his head. He wore dark khaki pants and a white shirt, reminiscent really of Indiana Jones. The idea made her chuckle.
She shook her head as she got closer to the man.
"You are Miss Stewart, I presume?"
Surprised, she halted in mid-step. She nodded. "Yes...hello." Wary of this man who was striking in every possible way, she slowly approached him. He was built tall and slender, yet his well-toned muscles conveyed it was no hardship for him to be in top shape. He had green eyes, bright and nearly yellow, like a jungle cat.
She had a feeling no detail about her appearance was dismissed as he studied her with those intimidating eyes. She shivered, but did not look away. This man was an expert guide and hunter. It went without saying that he was in his own element, comfortable enough to observe her in this fashion. Perhaps it was just what people did in this part of the world. Haley cleared her throat. "You must be Mr. West."
He nodded in grim assent.
