Chapter 1: A Child of Light is Born

My birth was not one of celebration. It was an event that nearly shattered my family apart. It all actually started before my birth, when the “miraculous” moment of my conception began to take fruit. Then all hell broke loose…
My mother was originally a nun. An average teen-aged girl destined to live a simple and peaceful convent life. For 3 years until the age of 16 she lived amongst the Sisters of St. Lexius. Then came the day a summons was sent by her father, for her to return home immediately.
In a way it turned out to be bad news for my mother. Her father had inherited a piece of property that was of some worth. A property of heritage. And with that ownership. His only child, his daughter would need to be married off, and produce an heir.
My grandfather wasted no time in lining up a suitable allegiance, one of convenience. One that would make his own new lands expand. His new neighbors had a son who was a bit older than his daughter, but very available. My mother was wed to Furste Howsdi, and soon bore him 3 sons. The eldest of the boys, Rowan was killed in his teen-aged youth, in the Galactic War. Then there was Draven who was 4 years older than me. And then Mordun, who came later, 10 years after me; the baby of the family.
It was when my brothers were 5 and 3 years old that I came into being. Our father was not really my creator and father. Though I would be unaware of this fact until a little bit later in my youth.
It happened during a severe depression that came upon mother suddenly. So bad her mysterious depression got to the point where mother would refuse to leave bed. Or so I was later told. Distressed at his wife’s condition, Furste sent her away to the only place he knew of that might be able to cure his wife. He sent her for a “vacation” to St. Lexius, to stay at the convent.
There within the peaceful walled community of religion, mother did eventually find peace of mind. Though it took months of praying and meditative contemplating to cure her. Several months of her stay, near to the end of her recovery, it soon became apparent to all of the Sisters that mother was pregnant. Of course how it came about distressed and puzzled all, especially mother.
No men were allowed into the convent and the closest community was far away. The gates were kept locked at all times by the Mother Superior, so no Sisters were allowed out without permission. So through no physical means possible the Sisters realized that Merione, my mother, could be pregnant. And yet she was recently impregnated from some unknown source.
It soon became clear especially to the holy Sisters, that it was an Immaculate Conception. Obviously by the Great God. The unknown entity that was creator of all. The one that held the balance of everything. Some also called this entity the Force. And other such names and beliefs it was worshipped under.
Of course when Furste found out he believed no such religious ideals and nonsense were the cause. He knew somehow a man had gotten into the convent or else mother had found a way out and had an affair.
Mother was shunned at first when she returned home, and was left with little choice but to stay with her now very aged and sickly father next door. Throughout her pregnancy, mother nursed her sick father who was slowly dying. Along with the maid Alsea. It was Alsea who helped mother during her pregnancy and the labor of me. Toward the end, Furste had begun to warm back up to mother, having slowly began to forgive her of her “indiscretion”. First he showed this by allowing the boys to visit with their mother whom they had sorely begun to miss. And then he himself began to stop by, to “check” on things.
It was only after I was born and it was physically apparent that there was something unusual about me. Furste hesitantly accepted mother’s assertions that I had been conceived through immaculate means. Though he was still repulsed to be in my presence, perhaps more so because of my strangeness. I was told by Alsea that it was my eyes that first bespoke my celestial parentage. Piercing violet-blue eyes.
And later it became apparent that I had regenerative blood. Quick to heal, my blood quickly sealed any wound, minor and major. It soon became rumored that I was possibly unable to be killed. This of course was flared when I was put in a deadly situation that most likely should have killed me. As it had instantly killed my childhood friend, Kishenaa.

In my youth, our small planet was going through a great turmoil. It was then rumored that this was happening in many places in the known galaxy, near and far away. Between the rogue militia and vicious creatures that begun to appear, it eventually became unsafe for normal people. The government of Wrendune was crumbling, losing control. And foreign entities were slowly trying to take over our small world.
I was 5 years old at the time one such skirmish occurred near to our community. Ours was a country community, isolated on the outer fringes of the nearby capital city of Karblaka.
At the time the attacks and skirmishes, were minimal in our area. And mainly at night were random attacks done, on those foolish enough to wander about out of doors.
It was mid-day when my friend and I had been walking down the dirt road that lead to where our small country community was, and a nearby lake that was our water source. A small drone aircraft came zooming out of nowhere and fired upon us as we carried back water.
I remember little beyond quickly seeing the drone out of the corner of my vision. The next thing I awoke on the recently muddied ground, filthy and quite disoriented. I remembered my friend Kishenaa, and quickly looked beside me. And to my horror my friend laid in a bloodied muddy pool of the recently spilled water that we had both been carrying back. She was full of bullet holes and quite obviously, even to my innocent child’s mind, dead.
I at once screamed in terror, somehow unsure if I was even alive or not. Had I been shot too? Why had I been unconscious on the ground beside my friend? Where had my fatal wounds gone to?
Somehow in my frightened, shaken and crying state I managed to get myself up and run home. I burst through the door, clearly in a state. My brother Draven who had been in the kitchen eating was first to see me. He dropped his sandwich and jumped up and screamed to mother to come here.
Mother came from the other room, wiping her dusty hands off on her apron. “What is it, Draven?” She replied, worry in her voice. Draven didn’t have to answer, as her gaze at once fell to me. She quickly came over to where I stood, muddy, shaking and tears flowing blindingly in my eyes. She at once was on her knees trying to wipe my face of mud and tears. “What is wrong Lissa, what has happened?”
I managed to get out, through my sobs, “Kishenaa is dead! It shot us from the air!”
Mother gasped, and quickly looked me over for signs of any visible injury. Seeing that I was quite alive and unharmed, she pulled me to her. “Thank God! He has watched over and protected his daughter again.”
It had been a slip of the tongue, but mother knew as I looked at her strangely that she had did it. She had admitted that the man I knew as my father was not my father. It broke my heart in a way, even though Furste was hostile from the beginning to me, always showing his disgust of me. And yet, he was the only father I had ever known.
The rest of that day was chaotic within the community. Kishenaa’s parents were immediately notified and assisted by members of the whole community to retrieve and bury their daughter. Then a meeting was held after the local authorities were notified of what had occurred. Children were no longer allowed to be out without adults. And guard posts were erected to watch the sky for any incoming threats. Then a siren would be sounded indicating everyone get to shelter.
That evening of that day the first nearby attack had occurred, mother came to me after supper. She again comforted me and then tried to explain how I had been conceived. At the time it was difficult to take in, I was too young to fully understand. All I really knew was the man I knew as my father, was not. And that I did not have a flesh and blood father.
Only as I progressed into a teenager did it all fully process in my mind. And deep down, I hated my existence. I was a freak, unnatural and not normal. A pure, one-of-a-kind freak.
