Paddy is a highly illustrated children's book set on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean.
The illustrations were created to match the look and feel of the island. Paddy and the other creatures in the book really do exist on the island.
The story is about a goat that has a problem. He can no baa so he is no use to the herd and is banned when he is old enough to take care of himself.
Paddy finds his own place and his own friends who educate him about the island and eventually he goes back to the herd to save all the goats and the people from a monster hurricane.
Paddy is a story about overcoming adversity to solve problems.
Excerpt
It was a good year on Anguilla. Lots of rain made green green grass. The little goat and his mother were resting under the old mango tree at Canafist Junction..
The mother goat looked down at her new kid and baaed, “Welcome to Anguilla little one,
I will call you Paddy.”
Beautiful like Anguilla!
I recently visited Anguilla. I have never met nicer people while traveling. If you have never gone....put this place on your must visit list!
I teach Kindergarten and intend to use this when I teach children about finding the best in others, courage, and not being afraid to be themselves. The illustrations alone could carry an art unit for miles. This is just one more example of how beautifully Mrs. Mason combines character lessons, art, and nonfiction!
Love Paddy
This is an adorable book, beautifully illustrated and is all about animal creatures, mainly goats, which roam all around Anguilla. This book would make a great souvenir for anyone visiting the Caribbean and especially Anguilla. We own and regularly give away all three of Jo-Anne's books, love her work!
