Trixy the monkey and her family troop live in the forest behind Golden Rock on the island of Nevis. She and her monkey friends travel through the trees in search of food on this lush tropical island but Trixy just never gets enough.
She is a fast tree climber with an extra long tail and is always sneaking off to find food when she is supposed to be listening to her older aunties and learning how to be a smart monkey.
For Trixy the most important thing is to get the most food and eat it all...all by herself!
Trixy and her antics show how a selfish attitude can often lead to trouble and how friends who stick together can solve any problem.

Trixy and her friends were playing in the lush forest above Golden Rock Estate. Their favorite game, “Catch My Tail” was in full swing with all the little monkeys darting in and out among the branches of a big old fig tree.
“Run Trixy run”, one of them yelled as she jumped from branch to branch trying to evade Pete, her best buddy. Pete was quick but he could never keep up with Trixy.
Suddenly they all stopped and listened as one of the mothers called.
“Let’s go, little ones, it’s quite a journey to Charlestown.” said Trixy’s mother.
They all scrambled down and in a moment were gathered around
their mothers.
It was early evening and they wanted to arrive at the mango tree
after sunset.
Trixy the Monkey that ate Nevis
Trixy The Monkey Who Ate Nevis by Jo-Ann Mason is a humorous tale about an overindulging monkey named Trixy and the trouble she faces when she choose not to listen.
Trixy is a young Vervet monkey who lives on the island of Nevis. She loves to play games and have fun with her friends. An active growing monkey, Trixy is always hungry. Due to the dangers baby monkeys face their mothers gather food while they hide in the safety of the trees. Trixy, who thinks she can do things on her own, often ventures out to gather food. She is always careful to return before the mothers so she can enjoy double the food. Her friend Pete tries to warn her about sneaking off and notices she is getting a little pudgy, but Trixy just thinks he is being silly. Will Trixy learn to listen before disaster strikes?
Trixy The Monkey Who Ate Nevis is filled with delightful illustrations that depict the beauty of Nevis and the fun loving monkeys who inhabit it.
Children will be amused by Trixy's escapades, but they will also learn the importance of following the rules and how greed clouds judgement. The story includes a map of The Caribbean showing the Island of Nevis as well as interesting facts about Vervet monkeys.
I recommend picking up a copy of Trixy The Monkey Who Ate Nevis.
A beautiful tool!
I teach Kindergarten and love to find books with illustrations with incredible detail and perspective. This book will be a consistent tool not only in character education but also art, adding details to our stories, and even nonfiction lessons! Mrs. Mason did a wonderful job of giving a teacher everything they need...all in one beautiful book!
Trixy will steal your heart...
We own and love all of Jo-Anne's books and we regularly give them to our island visitors. Such a cute book, great illustrations, educational, a wonderful souvenir for anyone visiting the Caribbean and of course Nevis!
Like the flash and dart of dragonflies, other busy lives surround ours as we prance unaware through our own world. Each absorbing story portrays a powerful sense of place..
