Hattie is dissatisfied with her dull brown shell and is determined to find the shell of her dreams. She goes down the big hill on the island of St. Martin all the way to the sea in search of her perfect shell.
Hattie the hermit crab had a big problem.
Her little shell house was a dull brown.
The island sparkled with color and made Hattie jealous for something better.
“What I really need is a beautiful shell, different from everyone else. Then the other crabs would notice me.” Hattie day dreamed.
My kids and I love this book! Mrs. Mason's illustrations are incredible and true to the island. My favorite thing about the book is the underlying character lesson of human nature.....teaching children and even adults to appreciate what you have and where your from. I loved the courage and ambition that Hattie had as well as the self reflection of learning by her mistakes. This book is full of nonfiction treasures too! Thank you Mrs. Mason....wonderful work!
The perfect Shell is an adorable book, beautifully illustrated and is all about animal creatures and St Martin. Would make a great souvenir for anyone visiting the Caribbean and especially St Martin. We own and regularly give away all three of Jo-Anne's books, love her work!
