Strangers invade a remote Scottish island - leaving a trail of death and destruction

Download to your Kindle (eBook)

A gang of hardened villains invade a remote Scottish island to steal a hoard of secret treasure. But when robbery turns to murder the men make enemies of the peace-loving islanders. The brutal events that follow leave a trail of blood across the wind-swept landscape.

Excerpt

There were only five street lamps in the village. One of them was situated outside the tiny post office where Ross Mor came to a stop.
Anna's left arm was hanging limp and as it swung from side to side in a wide arc its shadow grew out of all pro¬portion on the road's gritty surface. Blood trickled from the ends of her fingers to form dark spots on the road and was washed from her dangling hair by the sweeping rain.
For several long minutes Mor just stood there cradling his daughter in his arms and staring glassy-eyed into her shattered face. Instinctively, he willed her to move. The flicker of an eyelid would have been enough. Just a sign to show that life had not deserted her.
Of course, she did not move. She couldn't. She was dead and he was alone.
Alone.
For the first time he realized that the future was a hell in itself. First his wife, and now Anna. Dear Anna. No longer there to make his supper and keep him company. To fill the house with joy and hope and laughter. To pull him out of those deep, dark depths of despair. The house would now be empty but for the shell of himself. He wouldn't live there anymore. He'd merely exist, hoping every day that he'd be struck down by an incurable disease or a failed heart.
He jerked his head up suddenly and shouted at the sky. “Oh, God, why did you let them do it? Why? Why? Why?”

Amazon 5 star review
I downloaded this as a freebie because I liked the cover. I also liked the book. It was easy going and a bit different to the crime thrillers I usually read. It's basically about a robbery on a remote Scottish island that goes terribly wrong. The robbers then find themselves pitted against the peace-loving islanders. There's lots of action and a fair amount of violence and the book has plenty of pace.

Amazon 5 star review
This is a pretty good book but I would have preferred it to be much longer. I've begun to follow this writer with interest and he never seems to disappoint. Brutal Revenge is about a bunch of villains who go to a tiny island off the Scottish coast to steal treasure from a sunken wreck that the islanders have hidden away. But robbery soon turns to murder and the gang find themselves being hunted down. Nobody comes out of it smelling of roses - not even the peace-loving islanders!

Amazon 4 star review
None of the characters in this book will attract much sympathy, but it's a pretty good read nonetheless. It's a short, fairly violent novel about a group of robbers who go to a remote island to steal a hidden stash of treasure. Needless to say things don't go to plan and they make enemies of the peace-loving islanders, which turns out to be a big mistake. The ending was unexpected.

Reader Reviews

“I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. It's about a group of looters who go to a remote Scottish island to steal a hoard of treasure. But things turn bad and they find themselves at odds with the peace-loving islanders. It's a violent book with a simple plot, but it moves at a feverish pace and the characters are vividly drawn. I recommend it.”

“A short somewhat brutal story. Made you think what would you do? I like James Raven's writing - four books I have read so far are all completely different. Look forward to reading more.”
Goodreads review.

“I really enjoyed this book......it's short, punchy and well written. I got through it in one sitting and was gripped from the start. It's pretty violent and not for the squeamish. It's also unusual in the sense that all the action takes place on a remote Scottish island. I've become a big fan of this author and highly recommended him.”
