My book demonstrates that losing meaning in life is an opportunity, not a crisis. By exploring the psychological and cultural factors which contribute to the formation of values and meaning, I show why their loss causes us such anxiety. This anxiety provides the key to discovering our true human potential. To illustrate this, I begin with the existential view of meaninglessness, then journey deeper into the psychological affects of the crisis to arrive at my central thesis: working toward self actualisation is the key to resolving the question of meaning in life. When we rely on an objective transcendental source of meaning, like orthodox religion, we actually hamper our ability to fulfil our human potential. Actively working towards our creative capacities and understanding the self benefits from a humanistic philosophical approach to life. Central to my message is to overcome the fear of death and believe in the human capacity for good.
