In her newest collection, Aronoff illustrates her poems with imagery that haunts long after the poems have been read. Her poems are written without excess, with just enough passion to hold the reader captive. When she says everything is welcome here with no respect for order, we recognize her desire to embrace all of life, to accept what has arrived at her door without judgment–Colette Jonopulos

Sacred Geometry
She knew the curve of his arm
and dreaded the arc
his hand made
as it intersected
her southernmost region,
hammer striking anvil
again and again,
the sound of a fish
slapped against a deck
to kill it,
the sting of hot vinegar
in an open wound.
Bent over a giant’s knees
exposed,
sweet flesh tenderized,
she remembered flowers
and dug among the roses
for happier times.
Floating toward the ceiling,
she looked down
over playground parties
and forbidden fences
that invited her to climb.
No daddy’s girl,
she knew she wasn’t perfect,
that resistance was futile,
and hoped it would be over soon
