THE ROSE
It starts as a seed
Buried deep in the ground,
With water and sunshine
It should come around.
You nurture and care for it,
Day after day,
Then slowly a sprout appears
Early in May.
Excited and anxious
Insecticide in hand,
You spray all around it
And then soak the land.
Then finally it blossoms
Full of lovely scent and color,
Then you pluck and admire it,
“Oh, how it’s blessed with splendor!”
Yet slowly the petals
Fall of one by one,
Till the stem is left hanging
By itself, all alone.
It’s lifespan so short
Yet a wonderful part,
That a rose lasts forever,
Engraved on your heart!
