Jasper was so tired of being around his sisters. He wanted some adventure. Excitement! Looking across the pond he saw water jumping in the air. What could that be? He was so curious he forgot what momma told him about swimming away from the shore. He was headed to the other side of the pond, when he heard his momma, “Quack, quack, QUAAACK! Jasper, get out of the water! Hurry! Hurry!”
“Look in front of you, there’s a giant Northern Pike.” She had warned him over and over again about not listening to her. “You must listen to me,” she yelled at the top her lungs. “Momma knows when danger is near.”
Jasper looked toward the splash and saw the giant fish swimming very fast. Very fast with his mouth open. Jasper gasped! Turning around with his head close to the water to give him more speed, he kicked as fast and hard as he could. All the way to the shore he kept saying, “I can make it, I can make it.” Momma reached out and grabbed his wing just as the fish bit Jasper’s foot. “You’re not taking my son.” Momma pulled harder. All of a sudden they heard a snap and Jasper flew over his momma’s head.
