Excerpt
CHAPTER 1
THE LAST DAY

John woke up from a nightmare, he looked around but the room was dark, he couldn’t see a thing so he lay back down and started drifting back to sleep. There was a low growl, not quite animal, but more like a human imitating an animal, he sat up quickly and turned on the lamp that was by his bed.
“Who’s there?” He heard no response. John lay back down but left the light on, after the nightmare and hearing the growl he was shaken up, but he finally went back to sleep, but did not rest well that night, like many other nights over the past few days.
John Mason considered himself a regular guy, his hair was black and fairly long, down to his shoulders, and even at twenty eight he rarely spoke to anyone except those he played online games with. He was called a nerd most of his life, finishing high school early and going straight on to college, earning a degree in Physics by age twenty, and a master’s degree soon after. He was a scientist at a company that did many different kinds of experiments; he has been currently working on a project involving magnetic fields and invisibility.
The next morning he woke up and started his usual routine. He took a shower, brushed his teeth and got dressed and headed out the door for his walk to work. He rarely ate breakfast except for the occasional granola bar and a cup of coffee along the way.
The building he worked in was tall, the outside covered in glass, the sunlight glistened beautifully as it reflected from it. John went to the check in station, where he swiped his card and entered a code to get inside to the elevators and pushed the button for floor thirty one. The interior of the elevator was stainless steel, he was looking at his reflection, he could see the dark rings under his eyes and knew he would have to eventually get a good night’s rest.
