Agreeing to be a surrogate was meant to bring happiness to both Jen and her older sister Annie. A horrific accident, however, leaves Jen not only grieving, but pregnant with twins.
A man who has faced death.
With the clock ticking until he loses his whole world, cancer survivor Garrick needs to unwind before he becomes just another statistic.
Their worlds collide.
What Garrick finds in his hotel apartment not only shocks him to the core, but dregs up a whole world of pain he would rather had stayed buried.
Has fate finally decided to finish the job and kick Garrick while he is down? Or has she sent him an angel in disguise?
Jen’s nipples peaked and hardened almost painfully. The lace of her bra felt like sandpaper as she breathed, the fabric rasping against her sensitive flesh, leaving her desperate to rid herself of the cursed piece of clothing.
“I promise, Garrick,” she whispered into his ear as she nipped gently at his earlobe and cheek. Wrapping both arms around his neck and tilting her own head farther to the side to allow him greater access, she murmured, “Oh, umm, there is something you need to know.”
Continuing with his kisses, Garrick gave a mumbled “Yeah?” before sliding the strap of her dress down and eagerly exploring the newly exposed skin with his tongue.
“I ah…I have never done this before.”
A Contemporary Fairy Tale
Two people find themselves completely devastated by circumstances and deceit. Then find each other and dreams come true. Could this ever really happen? Probably not. But, wouldn't it be wonderful if it could?
Original Premise, Fun Read
Jen is carrying twins as a surrogate mother for her sister, Annie, who couldn't conceive, but after Annie is killed in a car crash, Jen is left to cope with the loss of her beloved sister. I found Jen to be a very likeable character. I really empathized with her loss and especially in the midst of that having to deal with her sister's angry, blaming husband who wants no involvement in the soon-to-be-born twins' lives.
Garrick is a cancer survivor about to be cheated out of his father's company by a jealous brother. Garrick is very sensitive man, which is a breath of fresh air after the overused "bad boys" that I see too often in romance. Occasionally, Garrick's behavior does not fit what I would expect for "man"behavior (too much talking, mostly).
The two are brought together by well meaning friends who hope the two will help each other mend. I don't want to be spoiler of what happens in the rest of the story :) I found the premise unique, the author's writing style fresh, the story entertaining, and look forward to reading more books by Ellen Cross
