Victoria and Travis Winter were once the Reverend and First Lady of their own mega church in Indiana, Indianapolis. It wasn’t until nine years ago, when their two oldest daughters, Reva and Rhonda exposed accusation about their Christian husbands. Feeling embarrassed with the lost of their church members and income, they left Indiana and moved to Detroit with their youngest daughter Naomi, to get a fresh start. The Winters found their new home at One True Worship, the third largest church in the Detroit area. But Victoria didn't want to be just a regular church member. She wanted to become Second Mother of the Church, a very high position for a mother-in-law. In order to have this accomplished, she must convince Naomi to fall in love and marry Pastor Kyle Smith; a wealthy and famous pastor of a multi-billion dollar family. God-fearing Naomi does everything a Christian woman is supposed to do. She attends all her church services, church events and she even help out when asked. After offering a bible study for their daughter, Victoria is so happy to see Naomi finally has the pastor eating out her of hands. But Naomi has a secret! This secret Victoria uncovers is enough to ruin her dreams of getting the position she so eagerly wanted, as well as having Naomi married off to a prestige family. Will this secret cause them to move again?
The pastor looked so handsome, and who could believe that he’s only thirty years old? He was just five years older than my beautiful and pure daughter Naomi. It’s only right that they should be married.
“He’s so handsome,” I whispered to Naomi who was sitting between Travis and me.
“He’s a’ight,” she replied.
“You know he’s only thirty years old, Naomi,” Travis added.
“And?” Naomi said, sounding like she wasn’t interest.
“And he would make a great husband for you,” I whispered.
“Mother, please, I’m really not trying to hear this right now. Besides, he looks too old for me.” She had a look of disgust on her face.
“Naomi, you are in the house of worship and you need to bring your tone down a notch.” Travis reminded Naomi.
Although Travis motivate was different from mines, we still believe in going to church and worshiping as a family.
“I don’t see nothing wrong with having someone older than you anyway. It’s only a five year different, it’s not like you’re a minor or under age or something.” I whispered again.
“I’m sorry. Can we listen to the rest of sermon, please.” Naomi tried to hide her face from the people sitting around us.
Our attention went back to the pastor as he gave his sermon on how a man was to be head of his house and how he was to find a good up standing wife. This was something my husband and I were most proud of. We raised three daughters to be modest, pure, and a good Christian. This will help Naomi to be well-equipped for marriage.
Naomi was our youngest daughter. She was cute with shoulder length black hair. Travis and I made sure she had everything a pastor wanted in a wife. She was young, still a virgin, and brought up in a great Christian family. She understood her role as a wife and a man role as the husband.
I leaned over to her to tell her the good news. “I invited Pastor Smith over for dinner this evening.” I smiled with a wink.
“That’s great, Victoria,” Travis added.
Naomi looked at me and then back at stage. “How wonderful, but I made plans already.”
“Well, you’re just going to have to cancel them!” I interjected.
Travis shook his head. “You will be there for our guest and that’s final!”
“Why do you need me to be there?” My daughter asked.
“Because we want a good husband and a good life for you,” Travis replied.
“You will do as we say! So please let’s enjoy the rest of the sermon,” I said to my ungrateful daughter.
We continued to listen to Pastor Smith as he ended his sermon. He was indeed a very intelligent and eloquent man. He truly was an anointed pastor, and I could definitely see our Naomi married to him. Not only was he a very handsome man, but he also held a very important position and had some say in his parents’ mega church. He really needed a good moral woman like my Naomi by his side.
Mother Ellen Smith and Bishop Chance Smith were very well known across the Detroit area. They even had their own television show, making them the wealthiest and powerful couple to run and operate their own mega church called One True Worship. Sister Ellen, as I liked to call her, looked good to be in her late fifties. She reminded me of one of the ladies that played on that show Atlanta House wives. Her hair was done every week, her makeup was done by a professional, and she hire someone just to dress her ass. I remember when I had as much money as she did. I went crazy spending my money on just about anything just because I was rich, but spending your money just so someone to dress is just plan crazy.
Bishop Chance was just as uppity as his wife. He kept in shape by eating and keeping busy in the lord as he always said. He dressed as good as any man with plenty of money, wearing his designer suits and the latest shoes. He was three years older than Ellen, and he carried it very well I might add.
Travis still didn’t change much. He was good looking and his body showed it. He was 5’9, Brown skin and clean shaven. Even though he was only forty-five, he would tell you in a second that age is just a number, it’s how you feels that’s what really count.
I was the complete opposite. I was light-skinned, with light brown eyes with a nice body too. I make sure that my makeup was just right as well as my outfits, which only consist of dresses or skirts. I was two years younger than my husband, and I made sure that I stayed in shape by watching what I eat.
I looked with a smile on my face as I continued to watch Kyle. His words commanded the attention of everyone in the church. His deliverance was to the point and you could feel the spirit in the room. People were clapping as they gave praise to God. Pastor Smith had a special gift for sure.
“He sure can give a great service,” I heard Jacqueline say to me.
Jacqueline sat right next to me with her husband Trey and their daughter Ciara.
I had to agree. “That man surely has been anointed by God!”
“He would make a wonderful husband for my daughter, Ciara.” Jacqueline stated.
Jacqueline was the type of woman that was always looking for a husband for her hoe ass daughter. Jacqueline wasn’t too fat or too skinny, and as a matter of fact, she made forty-two look good. I had to give the bitch credit for that.
“Oh really?” I murmured.
I knew I had to get Pastor Smith and Naomi together before Jacqueline and Ciara get their grubby little hands on him.
Once the morning service was over, we made our way through the crowd to the front door.
“Now, Naomi, I want you to help me cook dinner and clean up the house before the pastor come over,” I said as we exited the church.
“I don’t understand why I couldn’t drive my own car to church today.” Naomi said once we got into the car.
“Because we’re a family, and we all are going to the same place.” Travis groaned.
“Why do you always have to talk back with these ridiculous questions?” I snapped.
“I don’t understand why we have to clean up because it ain’t even that dirty.”
“Sometimes you ask some of the dumbest questions! We can’t have Pastor Smith coming over for dinner and the house a complete mess,” I said. “I don’t won’t the pastor to not pick you as a wife just because we don’t know how to keep a clean house.”
“Married? I don’t even know him like that to even want to date him!” Naomi raised her voice.
“Then I expect you to know him and know him real good, too, young lady!” I demanded.
