Mary is a beautiful young Princess who doesn’t like having her life planned for her.  In the early part of the 18th century woman are not suppose to make their own decisions, especially not a Princess.  She had been arguing with her father when he promised her hand to a Prince she doesn’t love, knowing that the Prince is no more in love with her then she was with him.  The Prince thinking it was all Mary’s idea vows to make life hard on her.  Little does anyone know that there is a plot by Jacob and his father, who is the half brother to the King, to murder the royal family and become King.

The murder plot doesn’t go as planned when Mary survives the buggy accident.  She does, however, loose her memory and finds her way to Prince Stephen’s palace and works there as a servant.  Jacob arranges it that everyone thinks that Mary is dead and secretly plans to take her away and marry her.  He doesn’t plan for Prince Stephen and Mary to fall in love with each other.  Jacob also doesn’t plan on a family friend to help Mary regain her memory.

Prince Stephen had never planned on falling in love but Mary was different.  Stephen decides to marry Mary and as the wedding is being planned Jacob steps in and takes her. They go to France and he forces her to marry him, threatening to kill her after finding out Mary is pregnant with Stephen’s baby.  This changes Jacob’s love for Mary but not his plans of someday becoming King.  Stephen never stops searching for Mary spanning two countries.

After months of running Jacob finds out nothing can happen to him since he is now a Prince.  As they return home Mary is taken ill and has her son.  Jacob sends it to Stephen not wanting to raise someone else’s child.  Jacob treats Mary horribly even though he needs her to become King.  After returning home Jacob wants to be introduced properly to the kingdom with a ball.

Jacob and his father are still plotting to overthrow Mary’s brother, who has become King.  Stephen arrives at the ball with their son, wanting to take Mary away.  Jacob catches Stephen and Mary kissing on the patio and punishes her severely thinking she is cheating on him.  Stephen finds out how she has been treated and fights to save her by any means necessary.  The King’s hands are tied on the matter Stephen is determined to find a way to do something about Jacob even if it means killing him.  Stephen catches Jacob about to kill the King but instead kills him.  Stephen and Mary are now able to be together as a family.
