A NEW YOU…

Janice Hallahan was unhappy. She looked at herself side-on in the full-length mirror she’d propped up in the lounge room. She grabbed two fists full of flesh that hung over the top of her Lycra tights. Wobbly mounds, that looked far too similar to raw pizza dough.

Janice sighed. After four children and four decades, she felt tired all over. Even her skin looked tired. As she smoothed back handfuls of wiry, unruly hair, she noticed with dismay that it was sprouting grey tendrils.

But most of all, Janice was tired of wearing baggy t-shirts. She stretched the waistband on her elastic leggings, and winced at the dull thud as it slapped back against her stomach.

Janice reached for the fitness video tape she’d bought at a garage sale the previous Saturday.

“ SAY GOODBYE…” it said in bold bright letters,

“…to the old you. The last fitness video you’ll ever do!”

Well this is it, she thought. A last-ditch attempt to whip this flabby forty year old into shape. If it doesn’t work this time…

She fed it into the video player and pressed “play”.
