This children's story, while exploring a mystery, explains two different ways of thinking: logical and intuitive. The mystery, while initially about vampires, shows how rumors and word-of-mouth stories are exaggerated and distorted. The story debunks vampires and jumping to conclusions.
It is about looking at facts clearly, and not accepting commonplace prejudice. But it also promotes the value of intuition: seeing with the mind's eye, feeling with the heart, and looking for that surprising flash of inspiration to provide answers.
Intuition shows the way, logical thinking makes the road.
And all the time the story moves forward, deeper and deeper into another mystery: Jodie's father is taken to the police station and accused of producing counterfeit money. Now they will have to solve this mystery!

Excerpt
It was sinister looking, made from dark sandstone, old deep red bricks and tiles. The wood was painted black and that gave it a bewitching look. It was tall and foreboding. The window frames were made from stained wood, with thick dark red curtains on the inside. The guttering was hanging down, broken, with rusty nails protruding from some boards near the windows.
Jodie stopped at the front steps and looked up at the huge door, it was stained with red and looked a hundred years old, vines hung down over the entrance like spider webs.
