Ye Olde Consciousness Shoppe

A world championship chess match is the backdrop for this intriguing mystery story. The main computer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco is being tampered with and the results can destroy the U.S. economy. Actual chess games are used, and they act as launching pads for journeys into strange and challenging worlds.

The reality inspector, John Ocean, has been hired by the Federal Reserve Bank to investigate the malfunctioning of their main computer ZAC caused by a reappearing alien program that is manipulating the statistics for M-1, the category for the amount of money in circulation and the basis for interest rate increases or decreases. A high tech hacker has infiltrated the security of the Bank's system, secretly installing the alien program which continues to recur even after it has been erased.

While the reality inspector is searching for the hacker who is disrupting the country's monetary system, his friend Mary Rainbow is the challenger in the world championship chess match, hoping to unseat the world chess champion. Suspense mounts as the match advances toward its conclusion. Seventeen master chess games are used in the story, and they become doorways for entering amazing and extraordinary realities that will excite the reader's imagination. Twenty-four chess diagrams allow the reader to participate in the games, and an appendix lists the moves of each of the seventeen games.

Excerpt
The Federal Reserve's main computer ZAC was his friend, a friend that needed help, whose reality had leaks. Because of those leaks ZAC's sanity was in danger. The bigger the ego, the greater the fall. And ZAC had a very high opinion of itself. If ZAC did go off the edge, how would that affect the whole economic system? Could one computer, turned into a monster, wreak havoc with the fiscal policy? And ZAC was the tool of a sinister power.

The mind has the power to project itself and to manipulate its environment. It has the power to shape external reality according to its inner reality. And when powerful minds become engaged in a combative chess game, a mighty and fierce struggle ensues.
