Professor Robert K Caroli the head of the National Paranormal Research Society receives 3 strange emails all from St. Augustine, Fl and all report encounters with a dark figure with glowing eyes.

Eleven skeletons were discovered in Volusia County, Florida. Archeologists determined that they were from the 18th century. One skeleton, that of a woman, was found with a spike driven through her sternum and archeologists concluded that the woman must have been suspected to be a vampire and ritually destroyed. The remains were relocated to a modern cemetery in St. Augustine, Fl. The "vampire" precautions were removed of course. That was when the trouble began! Professor Robert K. Caroli, the head of the National Paranormal Research Society receives 3 startling e-mails, all from St. Augustine and all asking for help. Each complained that they had been attacked by a dark entity in their rooms at night. As incredible as it seems, a real live vampire is loose in St. Augustine and only Professor Caroli and his team know the truth. Follow their struggle to convince the 21st century authorities of the reality of this undead creature which has returned to a world that no longer believes in them!

Excerpt
Back at the Sanchez house, Theresa wakes up again feeling terrified, but this time when she goes to reach out to wake her husband, she finds that she cannot move! She can move only her eyes. Her voice is frozen as well. Then she sees it, a black figure standing at the foot of her bed! It is covered in a heavy black lace veil. Behind it is the dresser with a large mirror. Whatever this is, it has no reflection in the mirror. She watches it place one knee on the bed and feels it sink down under the weight of it. Next comes one hand from beneath the veil and she sees it is brown and withered looking, the flesh looking more than just old, but scarred, like someone who had been in a fire. She feels it starting to crawl on top of her and she is unable to move or scream. She feels her heart may burst from terror at any moment. The weight of the thing is enormous, crushing. "Oh why doesn't Ramon awaken?" Theresa thinks but then realizes that perhaps he cannot! Anymore than she can cry out for help! Then she is face to veil with the hideous thing and through the lace she can see two red eyes glaring at her, looking deep into her soul. Then she feels the sharp pain of its thumbnail as it digs deep into her neck once again. It leans closer to the wound...

I've always been a fan of vampire fiction and I am not putting down modern works like "Twilight" or "The Vampire Diaries", but they have made me long for the days when vampires were scary not sexy. This author has attempted to take the modern vampire mythos which is primarily based on the book "Dracula" and return it to pre-Dracula days when vampire stories were based on the actual old legends passed down for centuries. I also liked the way he told the story from the point of view of a modern paranormal investigative team ala "Ghost Hunters". So if I had to sum up this tale one might call it "Ghost Hunters meets Dracula's Daughter". I found it to be a real page turner and an enjoyable read. I rate this book 4 stars out of 5.
