Excerpt

Memphis In Our Hearts is about three families, the Allens who buy into the river trade business; The Suttons, who own the newspaper; and the LeMares who own the only gourmet restaurant in town. On coming home from school in England, Jamai Allen is determined to use her education and not just marry and pour tea because it's expected. She promptly starts looking for work, and finds it! The Sutton's son, Lou, is the handsomest, but most fleetfooted bachelor in town and steals Jamai's heart, but not her rebel soul. Jamai balances her time between handling her job, keeping Lou Sutton at arms length until she can be sure of him, and not scandalizing her parents. Can she tame society and Lou Sutton as well?

Reader Reviews for "Memphis In Our Hearts"

Reviewed by The North Shelby Times ackie Griffey 2/15/2003
MEMPHIS IN OUR HEARTS is an escape into excitng times and entertainment on a par with Gone With The Wind. Memphis as a city lost its charter and 5,000 souls in the yellow fever epidemic but the city fought as valiantly as the heroine fought a society deaf to women. It will entertain you with tragedy, triumph, romance, and murder. A good read from a promising author from whom we expect more good things. MEMPHIS IN OUR HEARTS is available at Zumaya Publishing; Booksurge; marketplace at Amazon and all bookstores - ISBN: 1-89486-94-X

If you liked Gone With The Wind, you'll like Memphis In Our hearts. The events, romance, and a society deaf to women are typical of the times of adjustment to Reconstruction and the onset of the yellow fever epidemic. You will cheer Jamai Allen as she struggles to find true love and fulfillment right up to her rendezvous with the Delta Belle north of Memphis to escape the yellow fever epidemic only to be drawn back to the aid of a friend accused of murder.
