Thomas Mitchem joined the United States Cavalry to serve his country and fight terrorism, but he would never have guessed that war would soon erupt. With the newly formed Persian state attacking Turkey and its neighboring countries, the United States is drawn into a full-scale, high intensity conflict that it is not prepared for. Fortunately for the United States, Thomas Mitchem and his fellow cavalry scouts are.
Thomas jumped to his feet and tried to cover her approach as the enemy lines noticed her and began firing in her direction. Thomas moved forward and reached for her. As the tips of her fingers touched his, she was hit with a burst from the now-reloaded enemy machine gun. Her blood and organs splashed and splattered on his dirty uniform.
He knelt down next to her and pulled out his field dressing. Blood stained her lips and nose, and only a pathetic gurgle came out when she tried to speak. Thomas worked feverishly to staunch her bleeding and keep her alive. She looked up into his eyes. The pain of her wounds faded in the tears of sadness that spilled over her eyelids and onto her cheeks.
“I’m sorry. I just wanted to know what it was like here,” she gurgled weakly.
