A science book that demonstrates God's intricate handiwork, reflecting His glory and wisdom. Much of what makes each one of us unique and special is traced to our genetic code. This book is filled with information on genetics and the scientific advances in biotechnology. It is fun to read, and has many illustrations, including several exercises. This book is appropriate for late elementary/middle-school students in either the classroom or home-schooling. It is also great for anyone who wants to learn about genetics and biotechnology!

Who am I?

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and all living organisms; and, of course, that includes me. All things were created with specific purpose. No organism could exist without my creation. I live in every organism, from the complex, multi-celled humans all the way to a virus. (By the way, all words written in italic are explained in the Glossary section at the end of this book.)

I am the source of information that is passed from one generation to the next. Thus, I insure diversity and survival of the species, according to God’s perfect plan.

Can you guess who I am?

Did you ever squirm in delight, or horror, when your parents’ relatives or friends came up to you and said, "Oh, goodness gracious! You look just like your mom!" Well, there is a lot of truth to that. Half of you comes from your mother and the other half comes from your father. And, you have a blending! This phenomenon is called heredity.

My name is Gene and I am the unit of heredity, which carries information from one generation to the next.

Professional Reviews

Frank Sherwin of Institute of Creation Research (ICR).
'My Name is Gene' is a delightful introduction to the unimaginable complexity of genetics at the molecular level. Authors (and sisters!) Eskeland & Bailey have done an admirable job of explaining the molecule of life (DNA) and the nature of change - all in a Christ-honoring fashion. Chapter questions are included to keep the reader focused and an all-important glossary is provided. In a field that is saturated with the strange dogma of evolutionism, MNIG is a scientific and Scriptural oasis!

Debbie Culley, 7th grade science teacher and current Science Director at Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach, CA.
My Name Is Gene has fresh information that is easy for students to understand. This is important in a field that is 'literally' changing overnight'.. It's a sounding board of new ideas..

Mary Norris, Administrator of Cornerstone Academy in Escondido, CA.
My Name is Gene is a fun resource which introduces the 7-8th grade student to genetics. This book can be used as the focal point for an excellent unit study. Our 14 year old son found it interesting and informative. I even read My Name is Gene to our 8 year old daughter, who with a little coaching, learned a great deal and enjoyed it. We are now planting peas to try our own 'Mendellian' experiments.
